Patriotism is the foundation of the social system viability, one of the conditions for the proper functioning of the state. Patriotism is not transmitted through the genetic code, but formed in the society. Over the past two decades in Russia no ideological value has undergone such an evaluation as patriotism. After the collapse of the previous regime the governing structures have been trying to “resuscitate” patriotism as an integral element of the national mentality. Moreover, in the era of ubiquitous marketing, patriotism is not only instilled in the citizens, but also sold. Taking into account the socio-political context, enterprising people and public companies greatly expanded the range of “patriotic” products (T-shirts, hats, toys, dolls, puzzles, alphabet). The author analyzes the increasing distribution of patriotic ideas in Russia in the following areas: sports paraphernalia, souvenirs and home accessories.

Aim. To analyse the spiritual and mental existentials of Ukrainian culture, which allows identifying the immanent features of Ukrainian culture itself through the symbolic-thematic series Home-Field-Temple and examine the symbolism of the concepts “Home,” “Field,” and “Temple.” Results. The thesis that spiritual and mental existentials, in particular the Home-Field-Temple, reveal the mentality of the Ukrainian people, its spiritual and cultural identity has been further developed. Conclusion. The essence of the mentality of the Ukrainian people is revealed with the help of spiritual and mental existentials Home-Field-Temple. They play an important part in the creation of a single mental field of the Ukrainian nation, being revealed in its ideological life by certain inclinations or archetypes. The Home-Field-Temple symbol is a reference point for searching for certain archetypes of the nation. The concepts of Home-Field-Temple symbolise the trinity of one spiritual state of man, which is objectified in three guises. These concepts are so intertwined in the minds of Ukrainians that they see them as an inseparable unity – something symbolising their homeland. Home, land, and church have always been reliable support for the Ukrainian people.

The article refers not only to the writings of Siegfried Kracauer, a G erman essayist, film and art theorist, philosopher and prose writer, but also, and even in particular, to his monumental essay entitled From Caligari to Hitler. A Psychological History of the German Film. The most important issue he was interested in was the problem of different types of mentality and their psycho-social predisposition with particular reference to national socialism. Viewing the film as the picture of mentality of the nation, Kracauer describes the story of early German cinema taking into account not only Hitler and his later coming to power but also showing “inner predispositon of the nation”, which had an influence on the course of history. The autor especially studies psycho-social analogies between development of national socialism in G ermany and a famous film of Robert Wiene of 1920, enitled The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which is considered to be not only a leading example of expressionism in G erman cinema, but also one of the milestones in the film history of the world.

Artykuł dotyczy twórczości Siegfrieda Kracauera (1889-1966) – niemieckiego eseisty, teoretyka filmu i sztuki, filozofa i prozaika, a zwłaszcza jego monumentalnego eseju Od Caligariego do Hitlera. Psyychologiczna historia filmu niemieckiego.
