Long before offi cial theories of teaching appeared, people needed to know foreign languages for effi cient execution of their work. In time, in the face of changing socioeconomic conditions, a formal scheme of language learning became necessary. Although it varies with regard to learning natural languages, the presented article aims to trace the evolution of job-related language teaching related to teaching French. The variety of teaching goals, emphasis on selected competences, the regard for the recipient of teaching, as well as the sheer number of teaching conceptions all prove that French teaching methodologists are very active in terms of didactics. The presented review of methods of specialized French teaching covers the period spanning from the 1950s to the modern day (2008). Each conception is discussed in a separate section, and the highlights of all the presented conceptions are summarized in a table at the end.

The subject of this paper is a corpus analysis of patrimoine in contrastive perspective with its Polish equivalent dziedzictwo within the framework of the intercultural approach in French language teaching. Its purpose will be to reveal the semantic differences and similarities of these two words in terms of the results provided by the frequency and collocation analysis based on the Polish National Corpus, the French Corpus Frantext and Corpora Collection of Leipzig University. The study showed that one of the strongest and most frequent collocations, indicated by different collocation measures, for both Polish and French, is cultural heritage (Fr. patrimoine culturel, Pl. dziedzictwo kulturowe). Typical Polish collocations are national heritage and Christian heritage, while in French these are patrimoine artistique et patrimoine touristique.

Current research on interculturality in foreign language teaching focuses on the development of the intercultural personality of the learner based on his social representations. In this context, the introduction of crime fiction in French foreign language teaching makes it possible to take the complexity of the human personality more efficiently into account when developing the intercultural competence of the learner. Based on a thematic analysis of the novel Derrière les panneaux il y a des hommes (Behind the Panels There Are Men) by Joseph Incardona, which aims at highlighting the references to French culture in the text, and from a linear analysis centered on the characters and their complex personalities, the article proposes to apply the cultural and intercultural approaches of language didactics to literature. In this way, in order to develop cultural competence, the learners first learn to identify the cultural clues referring to French society in the text. Then, they learn to adopt a positive attitude of openness towards others through the characters of the novel to develop their intercultural competence.
