The aim of the article is to discuss the issues related to the philosophy of the French neo-thomist Jacques Maritain. Special emphasis is placed on positions critical of the solutions proposed by Maritain, because this aspect is not very common in polish personalistic reflection. The fundamental question which determined considerations in article is the quality and validity of such Maritainian theories as the new christian civilization and the person-to-individual distinction. All considerations are based on classical philosophy, because Maritain tried to be a continuator of this trend.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie problematyki związanej z filozofią francuskiego neotomisty Jacques’a Maritaina. Szczególny akcent położony jest na stanowiska krytyczne wobec rozwiązań proponowanych przez Maritaina, ponieważ ten aspekt jest mało rozpowszechniony w polskiej refleksji personalistycznej. Podstawowe pytanie, jakie przyświeca podjętym tu rozważaniom, odnosi się do jakości i zasadności takich Maritainowskich teorii, jak nowa cywilizacja chrześcijańska oraz rozróżnienie na osobę i jednostkę. Całość rozważań osadzona jest na gruncie filozofii klasycznej, ponieważ Maritain starał się być kontynuatorem tej myśli.

Der Begriff „Krise des Westens“ ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil des geisteswissenschaftli- chen und sozialökonomischen Diskurses Westeuropas seit über hundert Jahren. Das Nachdenken über die „Dämmerung“ beziehungsweise den „Untergang“ des Westens ließ die Krisenlehre entstehen, die philosophische Reflexion über die Krise unserer Kul- tur. Der Artikel stellt das im westlichen Diskurs weniger bekannte russische Denken über die „Krise des Westens“ dar, die die Analyse dieser bedeutenden Frage ergänzt.

The notion of “the crisis of the West” has for a century been an important element of humanist and socio-economic discourse of Westen Europe. Reflection over the “twi- light” or the “fall” of the West gave rise to “crisisology”, or a philosophical reflection over the crisis of our culture. The article outlines Russian thought on the “crisis of the West”, less known in Western discourse, which complements the analysis of this important issue.

Pojęcie „kryzys Zachodu” jest ważnym elementem humanistycznego i społeczno - ekonomicznego dyskursu Zachodniej Europy już od stu lat. Namysł nad „zmierzchem” czy „upadkiem” Zachodu stał się powodem wyłonienia się kryzysologii, czyli filozoficznej refleksji nad kryzysem naszej kultury. Artykuł prezentuje w sposób syntetyczny mniej znane w dyskursie zachodnim rosyjskie myślenie o „kryzysie Zachodu”, które dopełnia analizę tego ważnego zagadnienia.

Celem opracowania jest dowiedzenie, że angielska myśl dystrybucjonistyczna, reprezentowana przez Hilaire Belloca i Gilberta Keitha Chestertona, stanowi oryginalny wariant konkretnego ideału historycznego nowej cywilizacji chrześcijańskiej, jaki opracował w dziele Humanizm integralny francuski filozof tomistyczny, Jacques Maritain. Pierwsza, krótsza część artykułu stanowi zarys koncepcji nowej cywilizacji chrześcijańskiej jako konkretnego ideału historycznego, ujętego w trzech zasadniczych wymiarach: politycznym (demokracja personalistyczna), ekonomicznym (pluralizm gospodarczy) i kulturowym (chrześcijańskie państwo świeckie). Druga poświęcona jest wykazaniu, że te wszystkie trzy elementy znajdują analogiczne odzwierciedlenie w tradycji dystrybucjonistycznej. Trzecia, najkrótsza, poświęcona jest prezentacji podstawowych różnic zachodzących między koncepcjami Maritaina a dystrybucjonistów, ze względu na które nie można mówić o pełnej identyczności, a jedynie o podobieństwie, i które otwierają perspektywy dalszych badań.

The aim of the work is to present English social philosophy of distributism as a variant of a concrete historical ideal of the New Christian Civilization, as proposed by a French Thomist, Jacques Maritain, in his Integral Humanism. The first part of the text present the idea of the New Christian Civilization in three important dimensions: political (personalist democracy), economic (economic pluralism) and cultural (Christian secular state). Second one's aim is to prove that all these three elements are analogically present in the structure of distributist thought. Third part, the shortest of all, presents differences that occur between English distributism and the thought of Jacques Maritain, due to which the two system can be compared not in the terms of identity, but only similarity, and which open perspectives for further research.
