W artykule omówiono nowoczesne technologie materiałowe przeznaczone na elewacje budynków. Nacisk położono na aspekt estetyczny, użytkowy i energetyczny. W sposób ogólnikowy wyjaśniono zasady działania omawianych technologii oraz ich cechy mające wpływ na architekturę budynków. W rozdziale 2. omówiono technologię szklenia switchable, tj. szkło SPD, LCD, elektrochromowe i z technologią mikro żaluzji. Wspólną cechą tych rozwiązań jest reagowanie na przyłożone napięcie. W następnych rozdziałach (3-5.) opisano odpowiednio szklenie gazochromowe, materiały z pamięcią kształtu i biologiczne z przemianą fototermiczną. Rozdział ostatni stanowi zestawienie porównawcze powyższych rozwiązań w aspekcie ich cech estetycznych, użytkowych i energetycznych.

The paper discusses the modern material technologies intended for the facades of buildings. Emphasis has been put on the aesthetic, utility and energy aspects. The paper vaguely explains the principle of how these technologies work and describes their features having impact on the architecture of the buildings. In chapter 2, switchable glazing technologies, i.e.: SPD, LCD, electrochromic and micro-blind glass have been analyzed. Their common feature is ability to react under influence of voltage. Another chapters (3-5) include description of gasochromic glazing technology, shape memory materials and biothermic materials respectively. In the last chapter all these technologies have been compared in terms of their aesthetic, functional and energetic features.
