The phenomenon of gift-giving was primarily studied by anthropology and it was associated with the primitive societies. However, it is indisputable that the gift culture is also practiced nowadays. The Internet is a particular field where its development was observed. Due to its open character, popularity and low cost of the tools which help the users to create, publish and send the content, the Internet became the scope of exchange of information goods, such as the products of culture: music, films, books, software, computer games as well as scientific and educational resources. The present paper discusses the issue of altruism in the Internet exemplified by open educational resources.

The purpose of the paper is to analyse whether open educational resources (OER), perceived by their enthusiasts as a key factor to economic, social and environmental progress, are a sufficient element to trigger a revolution in education - the world education systems suffering from the process of McDonaldization which impedes them from evolving towards the XXI century “creative school” structure. The analysis, based on a number of surveys conducted and published in Poland between 2013 and 2015 (Poland being in fact used as a case study) reveals, firstly, that the usage of OER is less frequent and common than it is supposed to be. Secondly, these resources serve as a complement to the traditional methodologies rather than a source of creative change, their real potential remaining undiscovered. Last but not least, to flourish, this potential demands a switch of paradigm at each level of the educational ecosystem, which principally means more freedom for teachers to create their own methodologies, including creative usage of OER, and ways of assessing students.

This paper presents an overview of the latest developments in electronic learning and teaching methods and tools brought about by digital transformations aimed at making education more efficient and effective. A set of general and specific research methods was used to conduct the study, in particular bibliographical and descriptive, chronological, specification, analysis, systematisation and classification, observation, survey and expert interviews, abstraction, analogy and comparison, comparative, modelling, forecasting and argumentation, and logical generalisation. The authors describe their approach to structural organisation of the novel e-learning ecosystem and single out its key components, including technology, learning contexts, and learning outcomes, as well as a set of secondary external factors that determine the quality and effectiveness of education when digitalised. This paper explores characteristics and features of e-learning such as customisation, autonomy, and interactivity with a focus on micro-learning, and presents the findings of an analysis of the most popular open educational resources (OERs), massive open online courses (MOOCs), and online learning platforms, highlighting their major advantages and disadvantages.

The paper discusses a new model of social learning that makes use of open educational resources and flexible forms of learning. It presents the evolution of the process of learning from the Cartesian model, through constructivist, cognitivist and connectivist theories. Open education, being developed in many countries of the world, including South Korea and Poland, is becoming a civilisation requirement, a response to the requirements of dynamically evolving labour market.

Dostosowanie edukacji do obecnej rzeczywistości społeczeństwa wiedzy i poszukiwanie nowych metod stosowania technologii informacyjnych jest koniecznością. Szczególnie cenna i wartościowa pedagogicznie wydaje się koncepcja uwzględniająca wykorzystanie w procesie dydaktycznym technologii Web 2.0, angażująca nauczycieli i uczniów w proces zespołowego tworzenia wiedzy. Współczesne trendy w Internecie, określane mianem Web 2.0, umożliwiają projektowanie nowoczesnych środowisk dydaktycznych na podbudowie teoretycznej społecznego konstruktywizmu pedagogicznego. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono projekt takiego środowiska w oparciu o ogólnodostępne i bezpłatne aplikacje internetowe.

It is absolutely necessary to adapt the educational system to our current realityand to search for the new methods of applying ICT. For that reason the conception of using Web 2.0 in the teaching process seems to be the most valuable pedagogically, because it involves both teachers and students in the process of creating knowledge, which is done collectively. Present day trends on the Internet referred to as Web 2.0, enable to design modern didactical backgrounds based on the theoretical foundation of social constructivism. This study presents a project of this kind of background on the basis of publicly available and free of charge web applications.

This paper aims at reviewing the opportunities provided by new digital media in the contemporary educational environment in the context of the needs of parents who homeschool their children. The subject is important as it seems that the development and easier access to new information and communication technologies (ICT) may become both a factor that influences parents’ decision to take up homeschooling and an element that significantly supports the very educational process. In the article; the authors are trying to answer the question how; based on new information and communication technologies; we can build a personalized educational environment for homeschooling; and which digital tools and resources can be used for this purpose. In the first part; new trends in education and homeschooling development were described. Then; the authors classified and discussed online services and tools that may be useful in homeschooling. They were arranged according to the functions they perform; taking into account information resources; didactic materials and aids; as well as means of digital communication. Also; the authors provided the results of surveys carried out among Polish homeschooling families that were related to the use of new digital technologies. In the conclusion the authors enumerated the advantages of digital educational environment for homeschooling.
