The article is an attempt at analysing the role of the references to jazz music in the Argentinian writer’s most famous novel, which chapters 10–18 provide an interesting example of the use of this kind of music as a means of a whole range of extraliterary meanings. In the article Hopscotch is treated both as a Cortázar’s artistic manifesto and as an example of a work which fulfils its assumptions in the most complete manner. Musical elements such as improvisation and swing shape the novel in its various aspects, from narration to structure, reflecting a surrealism-inspired need to create literature that transcends traditional ontological frameworks. Jazz is also an illustration of aspirations to independence in artistic and social fields, as well as a means of conveying philosophical ideas and reaching the subconscious.
The article is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of Umberto Eco’s Tre Racconti. Each of the stories is considered in the context of its relationship with the structure and themes of traditional fairy tales and is recognized as an example of postmodern fairy tale (the term of Weronika Kostecka). The article also posed the question of the identity of the Tre Racconti Model Reader. The main thesis is derived from Umbetro Eco’s concept of the open work and it is an assumption that the three tales are set in a one continuum – so they can therefore be read as a single, modern fairy tale.

The aim of the article is to analyse an unknown vernacular translation of the Paraphrase of Pater noster by Ludolphus of Saxony. The author proposes a new way of thinking about glosses to the Latin text. It is believed that glosses are not only singular words but they form the artistic translation of the Latin base. The jottings can be interpreted as an open text, which could have been realised in many ways: as a Latin text, a Polish text or a bilingual, Polish-Latin text.
