The present article analyzes the Chronicle of Alfonso I of Portugal (Crónica de El‑Rey D. Affonso Henriques) by Duarte Galvão (1445?‑1517). We intend to focus on the origines regni in the light of mythologizing lines and show the functionalization of the historical‑legendary narrative in order to exhibit the heroification of the first King of Portugal and the subsequent (re)creation of his mother’s black legend.
