The present paper presents a reflection on the existential situation of Polish children. Pathology affecting various spheres of social life caused in effect of transformation processes in the political system in conjunction with economic and social changes leaves a stamp on the life of both family and children. “Serious” pathological phenomena in Poland after 1989 comprise: homelessness, begging, alcoholism and theft, and they give rise to conflicts with the law (also among the youngest members of the society). Due to the emergence of dysfunctional families and families endangered by demoralization, there appeared new phenomena such as maladjustment, social orphanhood and other risks associated with inadequate care of children and youth.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania na temat egzystencjalnej sytuacji polskiego dziecka. Patologie w różnych dziedzinach życia społecznego, które są wynikiem transformacji ustrojowej w połączeniu ze zmianami ekonomicznymi i społecznymi, pozostawiają piętno zarówno na życiu rodzinnym i na życiu dziecka. Do "poważnych" przejawów patologii w Polsce po 1989 roku zalicza się: bezdomności, żebractwo, jak również alkoholizm i kradzieże, które stwarzają konflikty z prawem (również w gronie najmłodszych obywateli). Z powodu funkcjonowania wielu rodzin dysfunkcyjnych i zagrożonych demoralizacją pojawiły się także zjawiska niedostosowania, sieroctwa społecznego i inne zagrożenia związane z nieodpowiednią opieką nad dziećmi i młodzieżą.
