Trust is the basis of human relations. This applies to both professional and private matters. In looking at business issues, it can be stated that businessmen often meet with the abuse of trust. Such abuse can occur in both in the internal environment (employees) and outside the company (suppliers, customers, and the competition). Tangible losses to the detriment of the employer are the result of commercial crime by long–time employees. Dishonest suppliers and customers can be a major threat to business. The purpose of this study is to identify fraud committed by employees as a major problem in company operations. The author presents the results of research carried out in cooperation with Euler Hermes S.A., an insurance company. The study focuses on the threat stemming from dishonest employees. Information was collected on knowledge held by managers on risk management, in its broad sense, within the organization and managerial staff awareness of the scale of the fraud committed by employees.

Turbulent environment is a source of uncertainty for every company in all areas of activity. Uncertainty then creates risk, which can lead to crises or even to the collapse of the firm. One of the fields affected by risk is human relations management. The risk connected with this area is called personal risk. The aim of the article is to define what personal risk is and what consequences are associated with it, as well as to present a tool which can be used to reduce the level of personal risk. According to the author, personal controlling is such a tool.

Funkcjonowanie firmy w dzisiejszej gospodarce oznacza konieczność mierzenia się z nowymi wyzwaniami, które niesie postęp cywilizacyjny i gospodarczy. Aby im sprostać firmy powinny odpowiednio kształtować swoje systemy zarządzania pracownikami. Obecnie zarządzanie zasobami ludzkimi zawiera w sobie istotny potencjał ryzyka, którego nie można w żaden sposób uniknąć. Natomiast, w dobie permanentnych zmian, odpowiednie jego wykorzystanie może stymulować szybszy i efektywniejszy rozwój firm w Polsce. Umiejętność zarządzania ryzykiem personalnym, połączona z racjonalną skłonnością do ryzykownych przedsięwzięć i podejmowania strategicznych decyzji, może przyczynić się do efektywniejszego sprostania wyzwaniom stawianym firmom na najbliższe lata. Niniejsze rozważania mają na celu ukazanie roli satysfakcji z pracy w kontekście ryzyka personalnego oraz wyzwań stawianych małym i średnim przedsiębiorstwom w Polsce. Znajomość istoty satysfakcji z pracy, jej wpływu na postawy pracowników wobec miejsca pracy, struktury czynników ją kształtujących oraz odpowiednie działania przedsiębiorców uwzględniające tę wiedzę przyczynią się do koniecznego radykalnego wzrostu innowacyjności i atrakcyjności polskich firm z sektora MSP.

Functioning of a company in the today’s economy means the necessity to face new challenges brought by the civilisation and economic progress. In order to cope with them firms should adequately form their employee management systems. At present, human resource management comprises a considerable potential of unavoidable risk. On the other hand, in the era of permanent changes, a relevant use thereof may stimulate a faster and more effective development of companies in Poland. The ability to manage personal risk, combined with a reasonable propensity to ventures and to make strategic decisions, may contribute to a more effective meeting the challenges posed to firms for the years to come. These deliberations are aimed at presentation of the role of job satisfaction in the context of personal risk and challenges posed to small and medium enterprises in Poland. The awareness of the essence of job satisfaction, its impact on employees’ attitudes toward their working places, structure of the factors shaping it as well as relevant measures undertaken by entrepreneurs taking into account that awareness will contribute to the necessary radical growth of innovation and attractiveness of Polish firms from the SME sector.
