The article clarifies the notion of personified projection of the future music teachers’ vocal training, its componential structure. The problem of diagnosing the above-mentioned phenomenon is highlighted. The personified projection of the future music teachers’ vocal training stands for the generalized quality of vocal training, which characterizes the orientation of the future teacher’s personality to the acquisition of external cultural processes connected with vocal works and art in general through their reflection in the images of characters (personalities) and internal psychological and creative processes of vocal performance and vocalpedagogical activityby means of comprehending their personified capabilities. In order to diagnose the state of such projection, some criteria and values were suggested: a gnostic operational criterion, with the values: orientation in the cultural and historical principles of vocal art; competence regarding the typology of vocal images and the theatrical character as a reflection of cultural and mental characteristics of vocal works; values-selective with the values: developed vocal and repertoire competence and analytically evaluative attitude towards it through the prism of personification processes; intentions regarding the hierarchy of vocal and repertoire priorities and preferences in the context of the values and mental paradigm (adherence to traditions, respect for them, for relict aspects in different layers of vocal culture); communicative and creative criterion with the values: a measure of understanding other people, including oneself, which encouragesa dialogue with the characters and with oneself, understanding of their own abilities; creative attitude to the interpretation of the image of a work in the context of artistic personified dialogue. In order to diagnose the state of the investigated quality of vocal training the following methods were used: questionnaires, pedagogical observation, psychological testing, tasks for ranking, tasks for self-esteem of attitudes and reflection of own abilities. The statistical method of scaling implied a 3-point scale. The introduction of these procedures allowed to establish the quantitative distribution of the respondents by the levels: high – dialogically comprehended; average – experience accumulating; low – technologicallyoriented.
The article presents an analysis of conceptual metaphors used by Darwin to describe artificial and natural selection. It is established that three kinds of metaphorization are employed: objectification to conceptualize artificial selection, and agentification and personification to conceptualize natural selection. It is argued that the evidence of Darwin’s text justifies identifying agentification as a special type of metaphorization. Further it is claimed that the ordering of metaphors: objectification – agentification – personification demonstrates the primacy of objectification with respect to more elaborate metaphors and recapitulates the phylogenetic development of the process of metaphorization. The article also addresses the motivation for Darwin’s anthropocentric language.
This paper investigates the conceptualization of the gene in the book The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins from the point of view of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory and the Conceptual Blending Theory. It is argued that there are two senses of the gene: gene1 is a physically existing section of the DNA, gene2 is information about protein synthesis. It is the second sense of the concept of the gene that undergoes metaphorization. The analysis reveals that Dawkins’ gene is a conceptual blend which becomes extensively elaborated. Through elaboration the gene becomes personified on the one hand and deified on the other. The study shows the richness of Dawkins’ personification: the gene is conceptualized as building and controlling organisms, cooperating and competing with other genes, even showing personality traits. Deification of the gene is focused on highlighting its stipulated immortality and power to create organisms, humans included. The gene blend is at the same time used as an input space in the integration network producing the meme blend. It is also established that the personification of the gene plays the theory-constitutive role in the sense of Boyd (1993).
The paper offers a report of a small-scale corpus investigation into some advanced EFL learners’ use of personification in academic writing within a higher education context (Mouloud Mammeri University). Its main objective is to shed light on the extent of the occurrence of this phenomenon in their writings. The question raised is whether the examination of their dissertations would reveal extensive use of personification. Conceptual Metaphor Theory constitutes the theoretical framework featuring in this research. Relying on the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP) (Pragglejaz Group 2007), six master’s dissertations are selected for examination, and a quantitative analysis of the identified metaphorically used words is conducted. The results of the study reveal an overwhelming manifestation of personification. These findings may constitute a small contribution to the field of education, as offering useful data to educational practitioners and researchers.
The article is devoted to an artistic and historical study of a marble relief with a symbolic scene of Nero’s victory over Armenia from the Sebasteion sanctuary complex in the ancient town of Aphrodisias in Asia Minor. The temple complex was dedicated to the cult of the Julio-Claudian imperial dynasty. The artistic and stylistic analysis of the relief was performed in the context of the sculptural program and decoration of the whole complex, and took into consideration other images of Nero in the Sebasteion. Through a comparative analysis of the figure personifying Armenia depicted on the marble relief in Aphrodisias, as well as a series of images on coins and small statuary samples, characteristic iconographic traits of Armenia in the Roman imperial art were revealed. Along with this, the paper presents an in-depth ‘reading’ of this scene within the context of specific epi- sodes from the history of the Parthian-Roman conflict and the Roman struggle for Armenia during the period of 54–68 AD.
Folk perceptions of disease through the prism of Ukrainian and Polish phraseologyThe article analyzes the phraseological units of the Ukrainian and Polish languages motivated by folk perceptions of the etiology of diseases; describes ethnocultural features of the formation of the analyzed units; and reveals that in Ukrainian and Polish phraseology the idea of personification and demonic origin of diseases is highlighted by coding in the phraseological units: 1) the outward appearance of mythical creatures similar to the appearance of an afflicted person; 2) specific actions of the personified disease that lead to the deterioration of health or even death; 3) folk ways of treating illness and so on. The concept of “personification” is sufficiently strengthened in pedagogy. At the same time, in the special pedagogy, and in speech therapy, in particular, there is an acute need for personification of the corrective-developing effect in specific language impairment. The substantiation of personification of speech therapy work with children who have specific language impairment is presented. The relevant scientific positions of the authors regarding the personification in the field of differential diagnosis, corrective-developing effects, prevention of systemic consequences of specific language impairment in children are indicated. The directions of the further development of the indicated problem of personification of speech therapy work are determined.
Slovak 2014 presidential election with its extraordinarily high score for independent nonpartisan and anti-established-parties candidates has aroused an impression of a profound change of Slovak politics going on. Hungarian 2014 parliamentary election, on the contrary, has brought almost no result discontinuity as far as the previous (2010) is concerned. The image of Hungarian politics as essentially frozen is thus hard to dismiss. Th is article argues that to announce a genuine party system change in Slovakia seems at least a premature conclusion. On the other hand, the striking continuity in Hungary is actually a delayed message of a fundamental change that happened (and has only been confi rmed now) in 2010. As for Slovakia, the seemingly breakthrough 2014 electoral outcome has taken place in the presidential arena where the results have always been incompatible with the main Slovak electoral arena, i.e. parliamentary. Moreover, the presidential election outcome has not broken any of the main features of Slovak party politics: right-left competition with stable alliances, asymmetric format and coexistence of stable-core parties in some segments and rather unstable ones in the liberal “urban” sector. Turning to Hungary, the frozen (or locked) character of its politics, as exemplifi ed not only by the electoral non-change of 2014 but also, on another level, by the 2012 constitution, should not deflect the observer from a crucial fact: it has been a fundamental change what has been frozen into place. A change that has entirely transformed the logics of inter-party competition: from a symmetric bipolar right-left to a highly asymmetric unipolar with centre of gravity heavily shifted to the right and the metric centre of the system embodied by the thoroughly rightist Fidesz party. In both countries an anti-establishment protest-like opposition seems to be on rise. In Hungary it is radical and nationalistic. In Slovakia it is (so far) moderate and follows a general anti-party and anti-traditional-politicians sentiment. It is not beyond imagination in a foreseeable future, though, that the missing component in each of the countries could emerge. After all, in Slovakia this would just mean a return to one its patterns (existence of a radical nationalistic party). In Hungary, any powerful antiparty and nonideological movement would be a novelty. But even a frozen country could soon come to follow other European countries’ example. Th is article has set the recent development in the neighboring countries into the context. In the two case studies, it fi rst showed the main features of both party systems in terms of format and mechanics. In Slovakia, it was the moderately asymmetric format and a somewhat “fragile” (belated in its ascendance and at times vulnerable) right-left pattern of competition based on socio-economic issues. In Hungary, it was a stable bipolarity, reflecting a cultural (value-based) right-left confl ict, transformed recently into a strong asymmetric format, shaped in both stages by strong intervening institutions. In the final comparative chapter, the Slovak-Hungarian diff erences have been explored in more detail and some tentative answers have been suggested: electoral system for the format-related diff erences, divergent logics of post-1990 path dependency for the mechanics-related diff erences and, finally, personalization/personifi cation distinction for the diff erences in dynamics (a late, post-2010 party system reconstruction in Hungary as opposed to an earlier, “millennium” reconstruction in Slovakia).

The present paper is centered around the culturally-conditioned model of conceptual blending. The hypothesis assumes that this unique model is realized in a specific way and it influences the meaning construction in cartoon films for children. Since the introduction of the model of conceptual blending (Fauconnier and Turner 2003), it has been often used as an alternative method to a conceptual theory of metaphor. The case study is based on Cars 1 and the analysis reveals that the most significant element of the blend is the generic space. Consequently, the generic space is a complex conceptual structure that in the further process decides about the frames for the conceptual blending. Additionally, the paper deals with personification (as a kind of metaphorical process) that enhances the humorous effect of this cartoon film.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the extent to which the organic metaphor, commonly used in management publications, allows you to better understand the functioning of the organization. The article attempts to develop some aspects of this approach based on literature studies. Some human characteristics and behaviors are compared with the behavior of organizations in order to assess the extent to which they are similar and thus whether such an analogy is justified.
