Każdy z nas na swój sposób odbiera dane miejsce. Dlatego by zrozumieć wielopłaszczyznowy sens przestrzeni miejskiej, trzeba ją świadomie dostrzec, wyróżnić z ogółu, poczuć wszelkimi zmysłami, następnie indywidualnie doświadczyć, by potem móc właściwie zrozumieć jej fenomen. Celem opracowania jest zwrócenie uwagi na szeroko pojęty odbiór sensoryczny przestrzeni oraz wskazanie właściwego kierunku zagospodarowania placu rynkowego na przykładzie Serocka. Zastosowano analizy: percepcji J. Skalskiego, kompozycji urbanistycznej K. Wejcherta, form przestrzennych K. Lyncha oraz genius loci Ch. Norberga-Schulza. Na tej podstawie wyodrębniono elementy kompozycji i zasady kształtowania miejsc publicznych wpływające na tworzenie ładu przestrzennego, który przekłada się na postrzeganie i odbiór zmysłowy użytkownika. W kreacji wnętrz publicznych istotne jest zastosowanie wzorców przestrzennych, które budują charakter miejsca oraz pozwalają na tworzenie interakcji społecznych.

Each of us receives space in his or her own way. Therefore, to understand the meaning of multidimensional space, it must be seen consciously, stand out from the general, felt with all the senses, then individually experienced and next understand actually the phenomenon of that space. An aim of this study is to draw attention to the widely understood sensory perception of space and to indicate the correct direction of development of the market square on the example of the town Serock. There were applied the following analyses: that of perception by J. Skalski, urban composition by K. Wejchert, spatial forms of K. Lynch, and genius loci of Ch. Norberg-Schulz. On this base there were separated elements of the composition and rules of shaping the urban influence on the formation of the order, which translates into the sensual perception and reception of sites by the user. The creation of public spaces is essential to the use of spatial patterns that build the character of the place and it allows for the creation of social interaction.
