Dog bites are a widespread and serious problem for public health and animal welfare. To prevent attacks, it is necessary to determine risk factors, including information on dogs, victims, and the circumstances of incidents. According to research, victims are mainly children, and biting most often occurs during everyday activities in the home environment, in interaction with their pet dog. An effective strategy to prevent dogs bites is education addressed either to children or to adults. Prevention programmes should take into account the specificity of the country for which they are created, because those which make sense in one country may not be suitable in another.
