In the article, the author presents his own interpretation of Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of social field research. At the beginning, he introduces the general field theory and then presents the counselling practice as a manifestation of the counselling field operation. Subsequently, he presents methodological aspects of the field’s effects examination, makes the conceptualization of the main analytical categories and at the same time observable social phenomena, in particular doxa, illusio, generative structures of field’s divisions and classifications or counseling game stakes. In summary, he draws attention to the potential and limitations of field theory.

W artykule autor prezentuje własną interpretację koncepcji Pierre’a Bourdieu badania pola społecznego. Na początku przybliża ogólną teorię pola, a następnie przedstawia praktykę poradnictwa jako przejaw działania pola poradniczego. W dalszej kolejności prezentuje metodologiczne aspekty badania efektów tego pola, a więc dokonuje konceptualizacji głównych kategorii analitycznych, czyli jednocześnie takich obserwowalnych fenomenów społecznych, jak doxa, illusio, generatywne zasady klasyfikacji i podziałów pola czy stawki gry poradniczej. Podsumowując, zwraca uwagę na potencjał i ograniczenia teorii pola.

Jeden z fundamentalnych sporów na temat natury rzeczywistości spo- łecznej stanowi debata, którą najczęściej określa się współcześnie mianem agency and structure (sprawstwo podmiotowe a struktura). Pierre Bourdieu próbował prze- zwyciężyć tę klasyczną opozycję („konstruktywistyczny strukturalizm”) i w efekcie stworzył bardzo ciekawą i oryginalną teorię pola społecznego. Jego koncepcja stała się dla mnie inspiracją do myślenia o praktyce poradniczej właśnie w kategoriach pola. W artykule przywołuję argumenty i racje na rzecz aplikacji oraz uprawomoc- nienia teorii tego wybitnego socjologa na gruncie poradoznawstwa. Z racji objętości tekstu czynię to tutaj jedynie w sposób uproszczony. Jest to zaledwie wstępna próba przedstawienia praktyki poradniczej jako fenomenu działania pola.

One of the fundamental disagreements about the nature of social reality is a debate which is commonly referred to nowadays as agency and structure. Pierre Bourdieu attempted to overcome this classical opposition (“constructivist structu- ralism”) and as a result has created a very interesting and original theory of the social field. His concept became an inspiration for me to think about the counselling practice just in terms of the field. In the article I rehearse the eminent sociologist’s major concepts and provide arguments for applicability of his theory as a legitimate framework for counsellogy. Given the limits of my paper, this account is here so- mewhat simplified. It is just a preliminary attempt to present the counselling practice as the phenomenon of field operation
