The main purpose of this article is to answer the question of how the object of political science was understood among the first practitioners of this field in Mexico. For this purpose, the author marks out the scope of the analysis to the academic works that appeared in the time frame of 1928–1960 and that were dedicated to the concrete study of political science as an autonomous field of knowledge, in order to establish if there was or not an initial agreement about its scope and areas of study. The analysis is based on concrete works of four authors: Emilio Rabasa Estebanell, José Miranda, Jesús Reyes Heroles and Enrique González Pedrero.
