The paper deals with the short history of the Soviet minority policy from 1917 to 1991 and especially focuses on the historical and ideological aspects of this policy. One of the main pillars of this policy was the right of nations to self-determination. From this right followed Soviet federalism and the worldwide process of decolonisation. The paper shortly deals with the impact of Soviet Union on its minority policy towards its satelite states. The Soviet pattern has helped to revitalize the standard minority policy based on the right to education in mother tongues and to the using of this language in the public life. Paralelly with the process of the gradual decrease of the impact of the Soviet pattern after 1968, nationalism in several communist countries of the Central and Eastern Europe was reborn.

Príspevok sa venuje krátkej histórii národnostnej politiky ZSSR od roku 1917 až po rok 1991. Osobitnú pozornosť venuje historickým a ideologickým aspektom tejto politiky. Jedným zo základných pilierov tejto politiky bolo ťažko uchopiteľné právo národov na sebaurčenie, ktoré vo vnútropolitickej rovine umožnilo vznik sovietskeho federalizmu, v medzinárodnoprávnej sfére zase zintenzívnilo proces dekolonizácie. Príspevok sa krátko venuje aj vplyvu sovietskej národnostnej politiky na jeho satelity po roku 1945. Tu tento vzor po určitý čas pomohol revitalizovať klasickú národnostnú politiku založenú na práve na vzdelanie vo vlastno jazyku a používanie tohto jazyka vo verejnom styku. Paradoxne, práve paralelne s ideologickým oslabovaním tohto vplyvu po roku 1968 sa začali intenzívnejšie prebúdzať nacionalistické tendencie v rámci jednotlivých štátov strednej a východnej Európy.
