The presented article on legal history deals with the establishment, structure and functioning of civil law codification commissions over a period of seventy years. The Authors analyse the legal foundations of codification commissions, demonstrate the effects of their operation, and compare differences in the codification work that took place in the time of the Second Polish Republic and People’s Republic of Poland.
