The paper explores the desire of accumulating in our contemporary society by analysing two processes: that of archiving and that of collecting; and how these are represented in literature, in novels such as Everything is Illuminated, which deals with the preservation of memory through the archive; and The Collector, which brings a different perspective on the act of collecting, namely, the relationship between collecting, possession and fetishism.

The Berestye Archaeological Museum, a branch of the Brest Museum of Regional Studies (Brest, Republic of Belarus‘), is the only museum in Europe where an archaeological site with perfectly preserved 13th-century wooden buildings of an East Slavic town are exhibited. The discovery of the medieval town of Berestye was the result of large-scale excavations carried out in 1969–1981 and in 1988 under the guidance of Professor Piotr Lysenko. The characteristics of the wet cultural layer made it possible to preserve more than 220 wooden buildings and more than 43,000 objects of organic and inorganic origin. The long-term process of preserving wooden constructions was the first experience in the conservation and museumisation of such objects in the field

As a consequence of its long history of more than 250 years, the Douro Demarcated Region (NE Portugal) boasts a distinct cultural landscape typified by terraces filled with the regional variety of grapevine - it is a region where famous wines are produced, in particular Port wine. Nevertheless, especially after the 1980s, the need to cover labour shortages and increase productivity led to a gradual change in the landscape, and today the traditional terraces are mixed with new types of vineyards, such as the “vinha ao alto” (vertical vines) and “vinha em patamares” (vines on terraces). Against this backdrop, and with a view to preserving the landscape in a sustainable and multifunctional way, UNESCO awarded the region the “Evolving Living Landscape, World Heritage” award. In this article we combine extensive documentary research with productive field work in order to question the relationship between the need to preserve an exceptional, cultural landscape and the need for regional sustainability in this World Heritage site.

Aim. To expand the features of schoolchildren’s health culture formation in extra-curricular activities in the 50-ies. Results.Preservation and restoration of health is directly dependent on the level of health culture. One of the most effective factors that affect human development in social and biological principles is the process of forming its own culture of health. Schoolchildren are a big group of population that demand introduction of health education in modern rhythm of life. A great example of such education is schools of Members States of European Union. Problems of education of young people in the context of preserving and improving the health sufficiently well represented in scientific and educational sources. The study of Polish teachers consider health culture of a person as the ability to assess individual and community health needs using in everyday life hygiene and health regulations. It was determined that the majority of pupils both in Poland and in our country do not have the knowledge of the proper organization of free time for the benefit of their own health. Addressing the experience of forming health culture of schoolchildren in extracurricular activities can become an example for the countries of post-soviet space and Ukraine in particular. Pedagogues justified wellness ideas within the education of the person. The features of the extracurricular activities in the institutions were analyzed on the issue of forming a healthy person. It was revealed that these institutions have a well-developed methodology for the development of a healthy person of the schoolchildren for personal hygiene and physical education. It was determined that in 50-ies a significant contribution to the formation of culture of health of schoolchildren in extra-curricular activities had organized rooms and school subject circle. The special characteristics of the organization of the health education of children, principles and ways of forming health are highlighted. Conclusions. The problem of a health culture formation in Poland is extremely urgent and examined not only on the pedagogical level, but also at the state level, so the study of the experience of formation of a health culture of schoolchildren is relevant for our country. It is considered necessary to strengthen the role of extracurricular activities of schoolchildren in the context of forming a culture of health.

In 2014 and 2015, the Polish–Egyptian Conservation Mission to Marina el-Alamein undertook research, conservation and presentation of the area north of the central square of the ancient town. A major landmark in this part of the city are the public baths from the Hellenistic period, discovered in 1987. The work was focused on the main chambers of the bath: the central tholos with relics of hip-bathtubs, the neighboring room with an immersion bathtub, and a set of rooms in the southern area of the complex.

A Roman bath in use from the 2nd to the 4th century AD at the harbor of Marina el-Alamein on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt continued to be researched, conserved and prepared for exhibition by the Polish–Egyptian Conservation Mission working under the auspices of the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Architecture, Wrocław University of Technology. The bath and adjacent civic basilica were located in the center of the ancient town, to the south of the ruins of the main square. By updating results of research carried out in previous seasons, the present studies on the caldarium and frigidarium of the bath and a part of the civic basilica have brought us significantly closer to identifying the functional layout of the southern baths. Phases of construction were investigated as well and it is now possible to trace the transformation of the building over time.

The engagement of young people is already considered essential for preservation and promotion of culture heritage. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the European Commission, national governments and numerous organisations have undertaken a series of initiatives and projects that are aimed at engaging young people in the preservation and promotion of cultural values from the international level to the local ones. The aim of this study is to identify and analyse the role of youth in cultural heritage preservation and promotion in a local area, after considering the importance of their engagement. The research has been conducted on the basis of quantitative and qualitative data, which has been collected from primary and secondary sources. A survey is conducted in a local urban area (the city of Korça) that is rich in cultural heritage. This city is located in the south-eastern part of Albania. The data gathered through the questionnaire was later coded and analysed using SPSS v. 20 software. Based on the results of the research, the engagement of youth, especially students, in maintenance of archaeological sites, museums and libraries, training culture programs, guide walk tourist itineraries and participation in local heritage projects, enhance not only their awareness concerning heritage values, but also contributes towards their preservation and promotion. It is observed from the survey that the level of awareness of young people interviewed is higher among those who have been engaged in projects and cultural activities for preservation and promotion of heritage values. In terms of willingness expressed by young people, it is important to emphasise the role that education system, youth and heritage organisations and national and local government ought to play in encouraging the initiatives that involve more young people in heritage activities and projects.

Advergames have been appearing alongside digital games since the very beginning. Although they had been originally created as marketing tools, their gaming nature has made from them an important part of digital-gaming industry heritage. At the same time, advergames, which persisted over time, may represent significant advantages for the brands they promote. The aim of the study is an examination of advergames’ timelessness based on a theoretical framework and a qualitative-quantitative content analysis of advergames released across their history up to 2000, taking into account aspects of both digital games’ and advertising timelessness. Besides general popularity, archetypal character, current playability and preservation, the analysis also focuses on the advergame design and brand implementation forms.

The inventory of suppliers providing raw materials to industries producing green products faces two challenging problems. The first one is that raw materials are usually deteriorating items and the second one is that they emit carbon-based gases durin g deterioration. Moreover, each item has its unique carbon emission rate and composition, called the pattern of carbon emission, which is a function of the rate of carbon emission. In this present research, we attempt to develop a stochastic inventory model with price, stock, and pattern of carbon emission-dependent demand to maximise the profit of a supplier selling a single product. The rate of deterioration is a function of the rate of carbon emission and effective investment in preservation. The cost of carbon emission is a function of green investment and the pattern of carbon emission. Holding costs and purchase costs are constant. We consider three patterns of carbon emission, and each pattern is defined by a negative exponential function. The rate of carbon emission is assumed to be probabilistic and follows one of the three probabilistic distributions: uniform, triangular, and beta. Numerical validation is provided together with sensitivity analysis of the parameters for managerial insights. Analysis of the effect of carbon emission on the profit earned is made and results are interpreted. Particle swarm optimisation (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) are applied to solve the model, while statistical analysis and sensitivity analysis of the parameters of the algorithm are provided along with the graphical representation of convergence.
