This article discusses the findings of the survey investigating the influence of faith and religious beliefs on students’ family plans, as well as the students’ understanding of the ethical and moral aspects of marital life and cohabitation. The survey involved the full-time students in the last two years of different master’s degree majors offered at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. The answers that the respondents gave to the survey questions allowed determining their views on different aspects of family life in relation to their religious beliefs. The questions were divided into two parts. One of them investigated the respondents’ opinions about their prospective family life, such as entering into a marriage and having children. The second part asked about the ethical and moral aspects of family life and co- habitation, for instance partners living together before marriage, divorce, the use of contraceptives and the abortion pill, surgical abortion.
Contemporary medicine offers more and more possibilities as far as procreation is concerned. They are available, first of all, to infertile couples (IVF – In Vitro Fertilization). However, the advanced reproductive technology is also used by people who are biologically capable of having children. These people are ready to resign voluntarily from pregnancy and childbirth difficulties. The surrogate motherhood appears as a phenomenon known already from biblical times but existing nowadays in a different context. At the same time, some issues are emerging – questions concerning social, ethical, moral and legal consequences. This paper presents the issue of surrogate motherhood in the context of social changes, which could lead to a development of such practices as well as the reasons of parents and surrogate mothers. Can this phenomenon be perceived as a service for people who want to fulfill their desires for having children? Would surrogate motherhood become a socially approved practice? What are the ethical, religious and legal norms concerning this phenomenon? The religious norms are connected, first of all, with an attitude of the Catholic Church which recognizes surrogacy as unacceptable and states that “it offends the dignity and the right of a child to be conceived, carried in the womb, delivered to the world and brought up by their own parents”. The ethical norms refer to the biotechnological issues and include matters of creating and implanting human embryos as well as the problem of the surrogate mother – child – biological parents relationship. As far as legal norms are concerned, the case is still open hence Polish law does not take into consideration in vitro fertilization or the admissibility of surrogate motherhood.
Thomas Young (2001) argues that overconsumption and procreation are morally equivalent, and thus that anyone who disapproves of overconsumption must arrive at the same normative judgment concerning procreation (or procreation beyond a certain threshold). Young presents an analogical argument in support of his claim, and defends it against four varieties of objections intended to show that the analogy is weak or faulty. I argue that Young’s defense of his argument fails, and that though a stronger case can be made for his claim of moral equivalence between procreation and overconsumption, a full defense of the claim would unfortunately require a moral theory that we presently do not have (namely, Derek Parfit’s Theory X, the theory of beneficence that would tell us how many people there should be). This is unfortunate because in the absence of successful rational grounds for such a claim concerning the moral value (or disvalue) of procreation relative to resource consumption, we are likely to overlook or misjudge the moral and other costs of population growth.
Deut 22:5 marks the single instance of a prohibition of transvestitism in the Bible, and in its whole cultural milieu. The context in which it is situated suggests that it may have been inserted there as an addition, after the Babylonian captivity. That helps to narrow down the range of speculations as to the original Sitz im Leben of the law, and enables us to read it most of all within the canonical framework of the entirety of the Pentateuch. Hence, the precept pertains mainly to the principle of division of the human nature into the two sexes (Gen 1–2), the principle of retaining the order of creation (by not mixing kinds; Lev 19:19; Deut 22:9–11), and of keeping the procreational power, referred to here predominantly to masculinity (Gen 5:1–3; cf. Gen 1:28; 9:1.7).
Our whole discussion has focused on man’s self-fulfillment in and through the marital union. The mutual self-donation of man and woman is a participative act in that whenever acting is performed ‘together with the other,’ the husband and wife transcend themselves in action and thereby realize the authentically personalistic value of the action and man’s self-fulfillment in it. This mutual selfgiving of husband and wife finds its expression in and through the body. This self-fulfillment, however, is attained only when the husband and wife become responsible for each other and meet the demands of the personalistic norm. The marital union must adapt itself to the objective demands of the personalistic norm, without which the act of mutual love between husband and wife is degraded to the ‘utilitarian’ level. The structure of responsibility which demands reference to the object in accordance with its true value must be satisfied.
The social life is dependant on the procreative role of the family. The size and the characteristics of a population have got a vital impact on how a society functions. In that sense the family is the basis of social life. The papal social teaching draws attention to this fact. A more complex understanding of the procreative role is possible in the context of theology. In this particular perspective one can see the fundamental perils for the process of passing on life. They are manifested in acts of breaking the communion with God. The negative tendencies in the area of procreation, in both anthropological and social aspect, can be overcome when the parents gain the awareness of how much they have been given by God. They have received life and they participate in the process of continuous creation of the world. God’s gifts carry certain obligations – some tasks to be fulfilled. In the case of the procreative role these obligations are: respecting the God’s commandments and taking up the mission of educators. The latter one follows the call to making a new human person come into being
In matters of life people are not rational: more often they follow the emotions than a reason. The author presents a simple explanation of this fact. In his opinion, the rational beings care, above all, for themselves. As a result, they neglect the transfer of their genes, resulting in their genes falling out of the population. The medium of the basic value of nature, which is having the children, is emotions. For this reason, homo sapiens species is dominated by the genes of people, whose emotions dampen the reason. The nature created the intelligence not to reach the truth, but to support procreation. If the intelligence inhibits the procreation, the nature narrows its use.
The analysis of the mystery of life can be helpful to overcome the current crisis of woman’s and a man’s sexual/gender identity caused by radical theses of the gender ideology. In the light of biblical anthropology we can know better the multidimensional nature of human life. The life-cycle mystery is closely linked with the process of life transmitting. The woman and man have received from God the capability and mission to transmit life. This ability inscribed in the nature of the person expresses the essential feature of their vocation as beings created in the image of God. Woman and man should to be life-giving, as God is the life-giving Creator. The negation of this life-giving aspect of human nature present in the radical theses of gender ideology places this theory in obvious contradiction to the Gospel of life. For this reason the gender ideology can be considered as a serious threat not only to individual man but to all human family.
W konfrontacji z tymi poglądami artykuł prezentuje zarys prawdy antropologicznej i teologicznej leżącej u podstaw „Humanae vitae” a egzegezowanej z wnikliwością przez św. Ostatecznie prowadzi to do myśli św. Jana Pawła II nakazującej łączyć porządek aktu małżeńskiego z aktem stwórczym „w biologię rodzenia wpisana jest genealogia osoby”.

Since the publication of the encyclical "Humanae vitae" by Paul VI in 1968, a heated discussion has been taking place around this document. It comes alive in a particularly intense way on the occasion of the subsequent anniversaries of the publication of the document. Subsequent decades showed a number of problems related not only to the ethics of marital life and sexual ethics, but also to the concept of conscience or recognition or rejection of the seriousness of the Church's Magisterium. Recent months have brought further opinions of antagonists and protagonists of this document. Among opponents or critics of the encyclical, there are views questioning the teaching that contraception is intrinsically evil. This, in consequence, means accepting the thesis that there are no intrinsically evil acts at all. What is more, it should be noted that every human action is determined in its moral nature only by the proportion between its good and bad effects. In confrontation with these views, the article presents an outline of the anthropological and theological truth underlying "Humanae vitae" which was analysed with insight by St. John Paul II. This allows for the extraction of several basic theses relating to the theological vision of marriage and parenthood: 1) to read the truth about marriage and parenthood, it is necessary to fully recognize the truth about the dignity of the human person, 2) the person realizes fully in the reality of the gift that creates interpersonal communion with the participation of the human body, 3) communion and endowment made with the help of the "sign" of the body are realized in interpersonal conjugal love, 4) the special (though not the only) act of conjugal love is a sexual act, 5) marital logic of being a mutual gift is specific and this is inseparability of the bond between the inter-marital gift (between spouses) and the non-marital gift (between parents and children). Ultimately, this leads to the thought of St. Pope John Paul II, ordering to combine the order of the marriage act with the creative act "the genealogy of the person is inscribed in the very biology of generation".

The issue of the sanctity of human life, beginning with its development in the prenatal phase, is a constant topic of both Christian and Jewish theological reflection. In Judaism, it is closely related to the duty of procreation, understood as striving to disseminate the glory of God in the world. Life is the glory of God, because God is a living God and in him life has its source and justification. Above all, the glory of God is a living man, made “according to the essence and mind” of God (Gen 1,26). In this article, the author ponders on the subject of the Jewish conception of the sanctity of human life. In Jewish theology, from biblical antiquity to modern times, it remains in organic relation with the proclamation of procreation: “Be fruitful and multiply” (Gen 1,28). The aim of the article is also to point out that there is a space for pro-life cooperation between Christians and Jews, which may take the form of joint actions for the promotion and protection of conceived life. Both the Church and the Synagogue derive their anthropological and embryological views from the Holy Bible.
The transmission of life is associated with a particular responsibility, including, among other things, making the right choice of the method of family planning. Moral rules in the sphere of procreation are presented in documents of the Church, especially in the encyclical Humanae Vitae. Those texts present morally accepted methods of family planning as methods of recognising fertility and not counteracting it. Today, however, many secular and liberal sources promote using contraceptives. There is a need for advisers who can indicate the misconceptions of such a choice and help in accepting natural family planning as a lifestyle. The students of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin are educated within the scope of family sciences and have the family planning exercises in their curriculum. Before starting the course questionnaire surveys were conducted, and after finishing it, we have noticed favourable changes in the attitude towards the methods of family planning. In 2011, 93% of the student participating in the course confirmed that their attitude towards the methods of family planning had changed to more favourable one under the influence of the course exercises. After finishing the course in the academic year 2012/2013, the percentage of the students deeming use of contraceptives as morally unacceptable dropped from 43.4% to 19.2%, and the percentage of the students expressing the opposition to them grew from 55.3% to 80.8%. In accordance with John Paul II's appeal expressed in his Exhortation, Familiaris Consortio, there is a need for “wider, more definite and systematic effort leading to recognition, evaluation and use” (FC 35) of the methods of natural family planning.

W roku akademickim 2012/2013 po skończonych zajęciach procent studentów aprobujących niedopuszczalne moralnie stosowanie środków antykoncepcyjnych zmalał z 43,4% do 19,2%, a wyrażających sprzeciw wobec nich wzrósł z 55,3% do 80,8%. Zgodnie z apelem Jana Pawła II, wyrażonym w adhortacji Familiaris consortio, potrzebny jest „szerszy, bardziej zdecydowany i systematyczny wysiłek idący w kierunku poznania, oceny istosowania” (FC 35) metod naturalnej regulacji poczęć.
Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań dotyczących uwarunkowań planów i decyzji prokreacyjnych przeprowadzonych wśród kobiet i mężczyzn zamieszkujących województwo śląskie.

The aim of the paper is to presents the results of research on the determinants of reproductive plans and decisions conducted among women and men. The research was carried out in 2016 on a sample of 1,000 inhabitants of the Śląskie Voivodeship, aged 18-39. The survey method was used to conduct them, using the questionnaire interview technique. The presented analyzes are focused on answering questions concerning reproductive plans of women and men, the reasons why they have or want to have children, as well as the effort that they are willing to take in order to implement their plans related to having and raising children. The aim of the comparison of opinions and declarations of women and men at reproductive age is to contribute to the discussion around possible differences in the approach to parenthood and factors determining the decisions on having children. Research results show that having children and being a parent is important for both women and men. However, there are some differences in the reasons why men and women want to be parents. In addition, women are willing to slightly greater sacrifices and efforts aimed at implementing reproductive plans than men.
The gender and queer ideology deconstructs the concept of a human being. The costume that preserves the symbolic truth about human masculinity and femininity, and as a consequence - about gendering towards procreation as the principle of constituting a community of life - is denied (gender) or replaced with a creation symbolizing asexual sexuality (queer). Both forms of genderand queer lose their ability to procreate for two different reasons: gender by being in a homosexual relationship, and queer by being sexually and freely sexually active. They are made similar to their reproductive inability and, consequently, parental unreal. Meanwhile, the law of life presupposes procreation, and thus paternity of a man and motherhood of a woman. Life as life ceases when the condition of parentage cannot be met. In the essay, the source of these statements is the natural law (iusnaturalis), which is a universal premise for judging the deeds of both forms of postmodernity as contradicting the idea of life.

Obie postaci gender i queer zatracają, z dwóch różnych powodów, możność prokreacyjną: gender przez pozostawanie w związku homopłciowym, a queer – apłciowym i dowolnie seksualnym. Upodabnia je niemożność prokreacyjna, a w konsekwencji odrealnienie rodzicielskie.
Church – faithful to the mission commissioned by Christ – take successively the topics that appear throughout the history of mankind, which are the result of scientific development and progress of civilization, and increasing the possibility of interfering with the processes of life – from procreation, and the dying ending. Undoubtedly, the field of interference in human procreation is the one that because of the tremendous progress achieved and the personal good, especially endangered in its activities – requires special vigilance of the Church. Therefore, in this publication is presented clear moral teaching of the Church concerning the abuses in the field of procreation. For the fundamental fraud, which became the subject of moral reflection should include: contraception, morning after pill, sterilization and abortion, in vitro fertilization and cloning. It should be noted that all these issues related to human reproduction right contradict the Christian tradition for centuries, and above all the Church’s thought for contemporary view of marriage, family, sexuality and fertility. Break for inner unity, mutuality and the need for relationships between spouses, but also the relationships between parents and offspring. For this reason, must be evaluated negatively. These phenomena are in fact the opposite nature – sexuality without procreation on the one and procreation without sexuality on the other.

This article attempts to synthesize family transformations in the postmodern era. It presents the changes in the definition of family and current family models, marriage statistics, changes in the procreation function of the family, and alternative forms of relations. The results of this research indicate that while postmodernism marks significant family changes, a nuclear family continues to be the dominant form of marriage and family relations.

I contrast a liberal and a conservative approach to the morality of sex, endorsing the former with a concession as to the special nature of sex, and note Pruss’ philosophical and theological endorsement of the latter. I criticize his argumentative strategy in three regards: first, he defends Christian love as equivalent to benevolence; second, he allows for only a moral evaluation of sex; third, he moves too quickly from some factual claims to others, and thence to normative conclusions. His account of the moral impermissibility of non-veridical pleasures trades on ambiguities in ‘real’ pleasure. I respond to three arguments Pruss offers against IVF: gamete donors can discharge their parental obligations; reproduction need not only be by coitus; and those who use fertility treatment need not thereby do wrong in treating any resultant child as an ‘artefact’. I conclude with critical observations about the distance between Pruss’ views and those commonly held by most people, including increasing numbers of Catholics.
The matter under discussion refers to the problem of voluntary sterilisation. The speculations contained in the article, are considered with references to the polish and international law. The fundamental argument demonstrated above, resolves itself to the statement that, despite lack of any judicial regulations related to that kind of operations directly, sterilisation is legal primary, accepted in polish law. That thesis is based on the law principles eg, freedom and right to self-determination. Voluntary sterilisation is a kind of realization the fundamental right of every human being, woman and man, to the possessing or not possessing children responsibly. Moreover, sterilisation can be observed as a realization of right to access to any kind of methods enabling using that procedure. In particular, right to the procreation includes also the possibility of resignation of it, even though, that resignation has a final and irreversible character, and consequences can be qualified as a serious injury in the criminal law definition. As a result, voluntary sterilisation of an adult, responsible and accountable person, realised with her acceptation can not be considered as an illegal operation, apart from the reasons of that decision.

Vladimir Solovyov’s concept of erotic love represents a rather original theosophical vision of this issue for his theory of love is closely connected with eschatological matters and, in addition to that, constitutes the product of materialistic (strictly biological) and spiritualist presentation of the subject in question. Solovyov’s philosophical analyses of sexual love demonstrate that intercourse is not so much an act that exceeds purely biological level as the one that causes transformation of our biological nature and consists in over-spiritualisation and divinisation (deification) of our nature. The meaning of erotic love, as construed by Solovyov, lays in creating a widely understood unity based on attaining a spiritual and bodily integrity as well as overcoming disintegration connected with the existence of gender, that is integrating the female and male principle of human existence.

Włodzimierza Sołowjowa koncepcja miłości erotycznej to dość oryginalna koncepcja teozoficzna.
The issue of artificial procreation may be analyzed from a variety of points of view. Analyses made from the legal and social points of view, from the point of view of the situation of the child in same-sex relations and from the point of view of the consequences for the health of the child and the mother are the dominant ones. The anthropological dimension is very important, since it takes into consideration artificial insemination and situations that are possible in the future if improved techniques make it possible to depart from the circumstances that may be objectable and from the consequences of their use. The anthropological dimension dominates in all the documents issued by the Magisterium in which the issue of artificial procreation is discussed. In this dimension two aspects may be distinguished. The first one assesses the technical interferences with procreation from the perspectives of human sexuality co-constituting the human person and of fertility as the fruit and the sign of marital love. The act of procreation that is adequate to the spouses’ dignity may not be limited to one dimension only: either exclusively the spiritual, or exclusively the carnal one; and hence it may not be separated from the personal, spiritual-carnal unification of the parents. However, in artificial procreation this „determination of unity and determination of parenthood” is broken off. The other aspect is concerned with the personalistic principle that forbids treating a person as an object or as a means to reach an aim; it orders treating it as a value in itself and an aim in itself. This principle also directs human procreation. At no moment of the existence of the child may the parents treat it as an „object”−„means” satisfying their desire or allowing them to achieve their aims. In the same way the specialists following the procedure of artificial insemination do not have the right to make decisions about the child’s life, for in this way they make themselves „lords” of the child; they usurp the right to make the decisions about the child, its birth, its life or death. This is especially well seen in the case of cryoconservation of human embryos. Such a relation is not permitted by the child's personal dignity.

Problematykę sztucznej prokreacji można analizować z różnych punktów widzenia. Dominują analizy z punktu widzenia prawnego, społecznego, sytuacji dziecka w związkach jednopłciowych oraz z punktu widzenia konsekwencji zdrowotnych dziecka i matki.
