Restoring the image: The confessor and the challenge of pornography

Increasingly, many confessors are confronted with penitents who have become involved with pornography. This article provides some statistics illustrating the scope of pornography and then analyzes the harm that pornography causes, both to the dignity of the human person and in relation to the virtues of chastity and justice. The article invites confessors to help penitents understand that involvement with pornography is more than simply breaking a commandment, but rather affects a penitent’s capacity for self-giving and thus one’s authentic emotional and spiritual growth. Confessors should guide penitents who struggle with this issue to cultivate the true vision of human love in place of the distorted image offered by pornographic material. The confessor should be prepared to turn a penitent’s attention to effective spiritual remedies as well as in some cases suggesting a penitent seek professional assistance so that the authentic image of God may be restored and the penitent be helped to attain true freedom from the vice of pornography.

The aim of the publication is to present selected aspects of starting adult life by the people with disabilities. Young adults, entering adult life, verify their plans and life goals, and tries to fulfill the life tasks typical of this stage in a satisfactory way. In certain special situations (such as disability), meeting these challenges can be difficult. The article will discuss selected aspects of the educational and occupational activity of young people with disabilities.

This article presents partial results of empirical studies of qualitative (in-depth interviews), which have been carried out among counselors employed in public employment services. Respondents indicating the key changes which, in their opinions favorably impact the increased effectiveness of services aimed at professional activation of unemployed people moved mainly to organizational issues, housing, information and publicity related to the need to reduce bureaucracy, increase employment and the number of advisers.

W artykule przedstawiono cząstkowe wyniki badań empirycznych o charakterze jakościowym (wywiady pogłębione), które zostały przeprowadzone wśród doradców zawodowych zatrudnionych w publicznych służbach zatrudnienia. Respondenci wskazując kluczowe zmiany, które w ich opiniach korzystnie wpłynęłyby na wzrost efektywności świadczonych usług mających na celu aktywizację zawodową osób bezrobotnych poruszali głównie kwestie organizacyjne, lokalowe, informacyjno-promocyjne, związane z koniecznością zmniejszenia biurokracji, czy zwiększenia zatrudnienia liczby doradców.

Temat poradnictwa zawodowego na terenie szkół w II Rzeczpospolitej pozostaje wciąż bardzo słabo zbadany. Można wskazać na niewielką liczbę prac poruszających tą problematykę. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zobrazowanie głównych działań, stosowanych metod i technik oraz wiodących zadań i ról podmiotów pracujących w obszarze poradnictwa zawodowego na terenie szkół w interesującym badacza momencie historycznym. Szczególny akcent w artykule jest położony na funkcję lekarza, psychologa szkolnego oraz nauczyciela. Istotne będzie także prześledzenie zasadniczych nurtów i idei, które wpływały na kształt poradnictwa zawodowego na terenie szkół.

There is a small amount of publication about professional counseling during the interwar period in Poland. The main aim of the article is to present basic activities of school practice, methods and foreground tasks and jobs people, of those who gave professional advice of choosing a career. The author of the article wants to accent the special roles of the school’s physicians, psychologists and pedagogues. It is interesting to picture also the primal mainstreams and ideas which impacted on formation of school counseling in that time.
