Instytucja rodzin zastępczych istnieje od dawna, jednak dopiero ostatnie dwie dekady są przykładem świadomego doboru kandydatów na opiekunów, a ustawowy obowiązek odbycia przez nich szkolenia wprowadzono w Polsce w 2001 r. W artykule scharakteryzowano program PRIDE – rodzinna opieka zastępcza/adopcja w kontekście jego przydatności w rozwiązywaniu najbardziej charakterystycznych problemów, z którymi borykają się rodziny zastępcze. Program PRIDE jest uznany, doceniany i wykorzystywany w wielu krajach do przygotowania osób ubiegających się o pełnienie funkcji opiekunów zastępczych.

Foster families have existed for a long time. The last twenty years is an example of a conscious choice of candidates for carers. The statutory duty to do their training was introduced in Poland in 2001. The article characterizes the PRIDE program – family foster care/adoption in the context of its usefulness in solving the most characteristic problems. The Pride is recognized, appreciated and used in many countries to prepare applicants for acting as foster carers.
