Introduction. A technique used in physiotherapy, but still underinvestigated, is the use of the Russian current as an aid in the improvement of balance. Aim. To verify the influence of the Russian current applied to the rectus femoris on balance in healthy and sedentary individuals. Material and methods. A cross-sectional clinical trial was performed at the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná – Unioeste, in the city of Cascavel – PR. The sample consisted of 20 healthy female subjects aged between 18 and 25 years, equally divided into two groups where group 1 was placebo and group 2 treatment. Initially, the proprioceptive evaluation was performed by means of a functional test (the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT)) and stabilometry using a baropodometer. Russian current was then applied to the femoral rectum of both limbs simultaneously for 2 weeks, 5 days a week. Results. No significant differences were found analyzing the variables, but the elevated effect size points to clinical relevance of Russian Current in functional assessment. Conclusion. The use of the Russian current in the rectus femoris did not present significant alteration on balance.
The head is an important element of the biokinetic chain. Under physiological conditions, it should extend along the midline of the body. Due to its location and the fact that it constitutes approx. 6% of the total body weight, many authors believe it has a significant impact on its functioning. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic literature search and to synthesize the evidence of the impact of the head posture on the functioning of the human body. A systematic review was conducted within 3 databases: PubMed, Medline OVID, and EBSCO, using the following terms: “forward head,” “posture,” “position,” and “neck.” For the analysis, scientific articles published after 2013 were selected. A total of 16 studies matched the inclusion criteria of this systematic review. Their results have proven that the position of the head has a significant effect on the human body. Research findings show that abnormal head position changes affect muscle activity, proprioception, the pattern of breathing and neck pain. This is the first systematic review of the relationship between the head posture, and the functioning of the human body. The results of this study seem to be promising if used in therapeutic practice.
Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate whether the restriction in neck rotation and increased neck muscle tension could be causally related to vertigo and dizziness. Material and Methods Seventy-one patients reporting vertigo and/or imbalance were divided into 2 groups: 45 subjects with unilateral restriction (R+) and 26 without restriction (R–) of cervical rotation and muscle tension in the clinical flexion-rotation test. The normal caloric test was the inclusion criterion. The control group comprised 36 healthy volunteers with no history of vertigo. The vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and the cervico-occular reflex (COR) were measured through the videonystagmography (VNG) sinusoidal pendular kinetic test in the conditions of not inactivated head and immobilized head, respectively. The VNG-head torsion test (VNG-HTT) nystagmus was recorded. Results Among the reported complaints, neck stiffness, headaches and blurred vision were more frequent in the R+ group than in both the R– group and the control group. VNG revealed an increased COR gain and the presence of VNG-HTT nystagmus in the R+ group only. Similarly, only in the R+ group a positive relationship between COR and VOR was observed. Conclusions Patients with asymmetric restriction in neck rotation and increased neck muscle tension reveal the tendency to have an increased response of the vestibular system, along with co-existing COR upregulation. Further research is needed to investigate the relationships between the activation of cervical mechanoreceptors and dizziness pathomechanisms. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2019;32(5):723–33
Autorzy proponują zmianę istniejącego status quo wykorzystując innowacyjną, dobrze sprawdzoną i potwierdzoną naukowo metodę treningu propriocepcji z wykorzystaniem urządzenia Delos Professional System zaproponowany przez Międzynarodowe Stowarzyszenie Propriocepcji i Postawy.

The fact that we live longer and longer should not be associated with the necessary disability reducing the so necessary for the human being motor activity. However, the functional efficiency of the human organism is determined by the independent from him system of supervision and control of the central nervous system (CNS) drawing information for the purpose of the most appropriate management from very numerous receptors scattered across the whole organism. No doubt, particularly in the process of ageing, the decisive role in retention of motor efficacy is played by proprioceptors. The declining with age efficiency of these structures is also responsible for an increasing number of falls in case of the 50+ age group. Consequences of falls in case of elderly people are also the problem for employers who are obliged to incur costs thereof, especially when the employee is important in the system of organisation of a given enterprise. The authors suggest change of the existing status quo making use of the innovative, well proved and scientifically confirmed method of training of proprioception with the use of the tool of Delos Professional System proposed by the International Society of Proprioception and Posture.
Background. Yachting requires specialist knowledge and the skills that guarantee safety while sailing in all weather conditions. Therefore it is essential to measure the effectiveness of training – in view of the limited number of hours available – in order to improve the teaching process. The main aim of the paper was to analyze the effectiveness of the teaching methods applied in sail training and to assess the changes occurred in the subjects’ ability to control their movements due to the training. Material and methods. The sample consisted of the first-year students (men and women) of the University School of Physical Education who took part in a sailing course in Olejnica. In the 30-hour specialist part of the training, the subjects learned to sail two sloop-type sailboats. The amount of the training time for each crew on a given training vessel was the same, and both crews were trained by experienced sailing instructors. Each student was supposed to master basic sailing maneuvers in 30 hours of training within 5 days. Before and after the experiment, the subjects were examined on a kinesthesiometer that registered the repeatability of the generated force in the upper limbs. These results were used to assess the effect of sailing on movement control in terms of the numerical assessment of kinesthetic differentiation ability on the basis of the generated power repeatability. Results. A 35-hour (5h theoretical part + 30h practical) sail training carried out in the traditional way – with an instructor on board the yacht – enables beginners to acquire basic yacht maneuvering techniques. The analysis proved that 35-hour sailing course does not significantly affect the repeatability of the generated power in the upper limbs. Conclusions. In the next phase of the research, the importance of a sailing instructor should be assessed in the process of teaching techniques of maneuvering on training yachts, such as Omega-class yachts or cabin yachts, equipped with electronic devices (GPS, chip log, anemometer) which enable precise collection of information on performed maneuvers.
The article deals with the issue of perception. In it I present Wittgenstein’s con cept of “seeing as” and Bohm’s concept of thinking as a reflex. By pointing to the similarities and differences in their views, I am trying to pose the question of what makes our perception conditioned. Having assessed this fact, I then pose a question about the possibility of unconditioned perception. Thus, I will try to answer two questions: are there reasons why we should free ourselves from this type of percep tion (?), and whether and how it is possible at all (?).

Problem and aim. With regard to Tuishou a modality involving high contact skill in pairs or duets, there are no studies to date that analyse the benefits of proprioception in Tuishou. Our aim was to analyse the possibilities that the Tuishou partner system could provide as a model for the development of strategies applied to both psychological and physical health and well-being. Material and methods. Methodology involved a systematic bibliographical search of the concepts Tuishou and proprioception in relation to health. Logical deductive reasoning methods were applied from the professional practice of the team of experts, with different subjects and professional contexts. Results. Seven relevant studies were pinpointed in our search in scientific databases. Conclusions. Tuishou allows for a greater multidirectional forces as the upper limbs intervene and interact in a plane above the ground. This aspect doubly stimulates global proprioception in the context of the theories of self-regulation of emotions, it could help develop strategies for adaptation, concentration and attention in many population groups. We recommend Tuishou as a practice with a multiplicity of useful therapeutic benefits in the treatment, not only of neurodegenerative or neurological pathologies but also in programmes of functional recovery, health and well-being.

Tło. Większość badań nad Tai Chi Chuan związanych z zdrowiem i propriocepcją ma charakter eksperymentalny. Inne badania nad Tai Chi Chuan zostały zastosowane w celu poprawy stabilności i równowagi u osób starszych, w celu zapobiegania upadkom i wypadkom. Problem i cel. Materiał i metody. Metodologia obejmowała systematyczne wyszukiwanie bibliograficzne koncepcji Tuishou i propriocepcji w odniesieniu do zdrowia. Logiczne metody wnioskowania dedukcyjnego zostały zastosowane na podstawie praktyki zawodowej zespołu ekspertów, z różnymi tematami i kontekstami zawodowymi. Wyniki. W poszukiwaniach w bazach danych naukowych zidentyfikowano siedem istotnych badań. Wnioski. Tuishou umożliwia większą wielokierunkowość sił, ponieważ kończyny górne działają i oddziałują w płaszczyźnie nad powierzchnią ziemi.
Celami niniejszej pracy były: ocena wpływu uszkodzeń związanych z zaawansowaną gonartrozą na zmianę czucia głębokiego i kontroli sensomotorycznej stawu kolanowego, porównanie wyników uzyskanych we własnym teście kontroli sensomotorycznej z obiektywnymi metodami oceny czucia głębokiego, analiza zależności pomię- dzy poziomem czucia głębokiego i sprawnością układu sensomotorycznego a pomiarami stosowanymi w praktyce klinicznej. Materiał i metody. Wyniki. W ocenie za pomocą TKS i JPS grupa kontrolna uzyskała wyniki na poziomie odpowiednio 4,9 pkt i 3,9°, natomiast grupa 2 3,7 pkt i 6,7° (p<0,005). W grupie 1 uzyskano 3,2 pkt w TKS, natomiast w JPS 8,2° w kończynie zdrowej i 10,2° w kończynie chorej.

Introduction. The importance of sensorimotor control assessment as a crucial factor determining functional recovery is being increasingly appreciated in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to assess the inflence of damage associated with severe gonarthrosis on changes in proprioception and sensorimotor control of the knee, compare the results of a new sensorimotor control test developed by the authors with objective methods of proprioception assessment, and analyse the relation between the level of proprioception and sensorimotor system function and the measurements used in clinical practice. Material and methods. We studied a group of healthy persons (control group, n=74), patients with stage 4 knee osteoarthritis (group 1, n=67), and patients after total knee arthroplasty (group 2, n=62). The participants were assessed with a new sensorimotor control test (TKS) and a joint position sense test (JPS). Moreover, we analysed the patients’HSS knee scores and Stafflstein scores.results. In the Control Group, mean TKS and JPS test scores were 4.9 pts and 3.9°, respectively, while the respective results in group 2 were 3.7 pts and 6.7° (p<0.005). In group 1, the TKS score was 3.2 pts and the JPS test result was 8.2° in the unaffcted limb and 10.2° in the affcted limb. The results of this group were signifiantly worse than the scores achieved in the control group and group 2 (p<0.005). conclusions. 1. The new knee sensorimotor control test developed by the present authors appears to provide an objective and comprehensive method to evaluate sensorimotor control of the knee in patients with gonarthrosis and after total knee replacement. 2. Further studies of the new test are advised, including an objective evaluation of the test utilising specialised measuring tools.
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty manifested by an inability to fluently master reading and writing. There are many theories explaining the causes of dyslexia. Among the most recent views is the belief that there is a close connection between the occurrence of specific learning difficulties and sensory integration disorders. The close relationship between reading and writing, and auditory and visual perception, balance skills, postural control, proprioception should be empha-sized. Dyslexia can also result from neuromotor immaturity and unrestrained infantile reflexes, such as asymmetric tonic neck reflex, symmetric tonic neck reflex, or tonic vagus reflex. Unrestrained infantile reflexes contribute to, among other things, the inability to cross the midline of the body, difficulties in integrating the right and left and upper and lower sides of the body, and negatively affect visual perception, auditory perception, balance skills, and postural control. The preschool teacher plays an important role in the education process. Based on the child’s symptoms, he or she can select appropriate exercises and therapeutic programs to minimize the effects of neuromotor immaturity, sensory integration disorders, improve psychomotor functions necessary for learning to read and write. The earlier the therapeutic process starts, the more efficiently symptoms of dyslexia can be minimized.

Na podstawie występujących u dziecka objawów potrafi on dobrać odpowiednie ćwiczenia i programy terapeutyczne minimalizujące skutki niedojrzałości neuromotorycznej, zaburzeń integracji sensorycznej, poprawiające funkcje psychoruchowe, niezbędne w procesie nauki czytania i pisania. Im wcześniej zostanie rozpoczęty proces terapeutyczny, tym bardziej objawy dysleksji mogą zostać zminimalizowane.
