The purpose of this research is to review the educational goals of prospective specialists’ professionally oriented English language spoken production teachingand to reveal all the contemporary changes in the higher education system of Ukraine. The author describes the shape of language education in Ukrainian higher school, reasons out structural reorganization of the system of higher education in the country, analyzes theoretical and methodological background of English for specific purposes teaching, and characterizes the researches done in the field of prospective specialists’ professionally oriented language teaching. In the paper, the present day educational requirements for the prospective specialists’ knowledge in the sphere of English language as an academic subject are analyzed and the most important aspects of the educational targets are highlighted. The status of spoken production in the form of monologue as a teaching aim of the English language for specific purposes is determined and convincingly confirmed. Moreover, a new approach to the English language for specific purposes targeting is suggested in the paper. Also practical, educational, professional, and developmental goals of professionally oriented English language spoken production teaching are clarified and justified in the given scientific article. Prospective specialists’ language skills, knowledge and competences are thoroughly distinguished. The requirements for the educational material in the context of a developmental goal achievement are indicated. The author also suggests determination of the principal goal of professionally oriented English language spoken production in the form of monologue in the context of modernization of higher education and points out the ways and methods of reaching all the goals and objectives mentioned above. The importance of taking into consideration language targeting in the English for specific purposes language course,noting the significant practical and professional requirements for modern specialist, is shown and the role of the English language as an academic subject for the prospective specialists’ professional competence development is revealed in the conclusion.
