The article is a voice in the discussion about mobile payments as an innovation in the retail payments market. Due to the fact that mobile payments are in the early stages of development and the problems are relatively new, conceptual operationalization of mobile and contactless payments appears advisable, together with showing their evolution and evaluation of the development and advancement of technology as innovative forms of retail payments in Poland, which has been established as one of the purposes of this sub-study. Another aim is to analyze the determinants affecting the development of the aforementioned payments market in the foreseeable reality using the PEST analysis. This study uses both theoretical and empirical aspects of secondary research relating to the market in question and the PEST analysis as a tool for environmental research.

Artykuł stanowi głos w dyskusji na temat płatności mobilnych jako innowacji na rynku płatności detalicznych. Z uwagi na fakt, iż płatności mobilne są w początkowej fazie rozwoju i problematyka ta jest stosunkowo nowa, zasadna wydaje się operacjonalizacja pojęciowa płatności mobilnych, jak również ukazanie ich ewolucji oraz oceny stanu rozwoju i zaawansowania technologicznego jako innowacyjnych form płatności detalicznych w Polsce, co zostało założone jako jeden z celów cząstkowych prezentowanego opracowania. Celem artykułu jest również analiza determinant wpływających na rozwój rynku płatności w dającej się przewidzieć rzeczywistości z wykorzystaniem analizy PEST. W opracowaniu wykorzystano zarówno teoretyczne, jak i empiryczne aspekty badań wtórnych odnoszące się do badanego rynku oraz analizę PEST jako narzędzie badania otoczenia.
