At the beginning of the 21st century, the concept of coworking emerged in the research studies and scientific literature. However, despite the worldwide spread of remote working, freelancing and growing popularity of coworking, there is still little research concerning this subject. Moreover, this innovative phenomenon is not strictly defined. The aim of this paper is to analyze the existing literature on coworking spaces, give insight into present state of the phenomenon and development perspectives of coworking perceived as an alternative to working from home. Hybridization processes between technological, economic and social categories indicate further directions of development of this phenomenon in frame of the information society. Diffusion of innovation in the knowledge-based economy and the change in the nature of work indicate the direction of development of management science, that should answer to the structural changes in the labour market, where more and more people tend to work from remote locations including coworking spaces.

Na początku XXI w. pojawiło się w literaturze badawczej pojęcie coworkingu. Jednakże, pomimo rozpowszechniania się na świecie freelancingu i związanej z nim rosnącej popularności coworkingu, wciąż mało jest opracowań na ten temat, a nawet brakuje jednoznacznej definicji tego innowacyjnego zjawiska. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza literatury dotyczącej przestrzeni coworkingowych, wgląd w stan aktualny oraz perspektywy rozwoju coworkingu jako alternatywy dla pracy z domu. Procesy hybrydyzacji między kategoriami technologicznymi, gospodarczymi i społecznymi ukazują możliwości dalszego kształtowania się tego zjawiska w społeczeństwie informacyjnym. Rozpowszechnianie innowacji w gospodarce opartej na wiedzy i zmiana charakteru pracy wskazują kierunek rozwoju nauki zarządzania, która powinna odpowiadać na zmiany strukturalne na rynku pracy, gdzie coraz więcej ludzi pracuje zdalnie (w tym w przestrzeniach coworkingowych).
