Głównym przedmiotem zawartych poniżej rozważań jest próba refleksji nad problemem roli oraz ewentualnej potrzeby „instytucji” mistrza na uczelni wyżej. Na wstępie autor stawia tezę, iż funkcjonujący obecnie tzw. „przedsiębiorczy uniwersytet” edukujący studentów głównie do ról producentów oraz konsumentów, eliminuje postać mistrza jako wychowawcy dbającego o wielostronny rozwój osobowości, w tym szczególnie etycznego charakteru. Z drugiej strony autor stawia pytanie odnoszące się do potrzeby powrotu do osoby mistrza na uczelni, jako realnego autorytetu do twórczego naśladowania w złożonym procesie humanistycznej edukacji. Kolejnym fragment tekstu odnosi się do biograficznych wspomnień autora opisującego złożone konteksty jego własnych Spotkań oraz Dialogów z Mistrzem. Tekst kończy pesymistyczna refleksja na temat na ogół złych wzorów współczesnych mistrzów, narzucanych najczęściej przez biznesowe media. Zakończenie artykułu stanowi swoistą próbę powrotu do klasycznego wzoru mistrza, jako postaci niezbędnej dla rzeczywistej realizacji humanistycznej misji uczelni jako środowiska przygotowującego młodzież do odpowiedzialnej pracy oraz życia.

The main aim of the paper is to discuss a problem of the role of and the need for an “institution” of the master at academy. In the introductory part of the article the author claims that the main purpose of a contemporary so-called “enterprising university” is to prepare students for playing the roles of producers and consumers. In consequence, such a university eliminates a person of the master as an educator taking care of the students’ multilateral development, particularly the ethical character, from the academy. On the other hand, the author raises a question of the need for a person of the master to return to the academy, the master as a real authority and role model present in a complex process of humanistic education. The subsequent part of the paper contains biographical memories of the author describing complex contexts of his own Encounters and Dialogues with the Master. The author concludes with rather pessimistic reflection on the negative models of the contemporary masters imposed by the business-oriented media. The final part of the paper can be treated as an attempt to return to the classical model of the master as a person who is necessary for an authentic realization of the humanistic mission of the academy viewed as the environment preparing young people for responsible work and life.
