The article presents the results of a study of some psycho-functional characteristics of the first-graders in the dynamics of the school year. The aim of this work is to clarify the features of adaptive activities for 6-year-old children, enrolled in a traditional school and gymnasium. The quantitative and qualitative indicators of mental work and productivity, the amount of visual and auditory memory, emotion and performance level of adaptability are determined. The conventional techniques of psycho-physiological testing are used. The research, conducted at the beginning and end of the school year, has showed a significant improvement of the most psycho-functional characteristics of the pupils, regardless of the type of institution in which they were trained. It is noted that the first-graders pupils of gymnasia have the higher level of productivity of mental activity and memory during the school year than that of the pupils of secondary schools. Some differences indices studied of children of different sexes, consisting of the advantages of cognitive function of the girls are revealed. Assessment of the emotional state of the first-graders in the course of their training in different conditions have showed that most children respond positively to the training load and micro-social environment. However, the performance of the boys and girls of emotion vary somewhat: emotional stability is more common for the boys, whereas the girls have more pronounced psycho-emotional lability. The overall results of the study indicate that satisfactory orientation adaptation of the children to the complex intraschool factors is associated with learning in educational institutions of various types. However, the high efficiency of the mental activity of the first-graders of gymnasia during the school year is provided by significant functional stress adaptation mechanisms, which manifest itself in a greater number of children at “risk” with signs of fatigue varying degrees among the pupils enrolled in a school. The data obtained on psycho-functional characteristics of the 6-year-old children may be used as a scientific basis in the development and implementation of effective organizational measures in order to create the optimal conditions for training and education of children in primary school educational institutions of various types. This will give the opportunity to prevent the development of early fatigue and exhaustion of children during their learning activities that may adversely affect their health and productivity of their learning activities in the subsequent stages of training.

The paper presents results of research on priority values in teaching process, the psycho-emotional state, self-evaluation, style of teaching and the level of subjective control of contemporary Russian and Latvian schoolteachers. According to Rezapkina (Резапкина, 1999), these five categories form the psychological portrait of a teacher. The authors analyse and compare the numerical representations of these characteristics, their variations and correlations for the three groups of teachers of both countries, which differ by length of service. An attempt was made to identify some negative trends in professional identity of schoolteachers, which are common to the professional communities of Latvia and Russia.

The quality of education in Ukraine depends on the level of professional health of pedagogical workers. The presence of changes in the psycho-emotional state of pedagogical workers under the influence of the labor process is confirmed by researches –hygienists, psychologists, teachers and requires further researches for finding optimal ways of correction of changes in the psycho-emotional state in the conditions of educational process in order to reduce the risk factors of deterioration in professional health of teachers. Clarification of optimum ways of correction of the psycho-emotional state of teachers has defined relevance of the study. The aim is to evaluate changes in the psycho-emotional state of pedagogical workers under the influence of isotherapy by the method called “mood assessment”. The criteria of an express assessment of the psycho-emotional state are defined by survey of 102 teachers of Sumy city. Workshop on isotherapy included accomplishment by pedagogical workers of five exercises within 30 minutes under the leadership of experts in arts and crafts. Five exercises of isotherapy included the following: creation of the mandala, simple blot drawing, imprints of leaves, spraying, imprinting by foam rubber. The study has found out that the psycho-emotional state of the pedagogical workers is characterized by mediocre mood (85,19±3,52 %), lack of an asthenic state (92,59±2,59 %) and an adequate assessment of surrounding events (88,89±3,11 %). The positive influence from isotherapy at pedagogical workers is shown in increase in level of mood of 4.12 % of respondents, normalization of asthenic manifestations by 3,24 % and increase by 13.66 % in the proportion of people with a moderate euphoric assessment of the surrounding events connected with creative process. Age features of changes of the psycho-emotional state under the influence of isotherapy are shown in most of its controllability in the senior age group (36–55 years) in comparison with younger age group. Changes in the psycho-emotional state of teachers of all qualification levels repeat the general regularities of influence of isotherapy, but for specialists the most controllable are asthenic manifestations, for teachers of the first category more significant are changes of mood, for teachers of the second category in the initial state is recorded euphoric state, and the teachers of the highest category are characterized by the most adequate assessment of surrounding events in the initial state. Prospects for further research are physiological justifications of influence of isotherapy at the psycho-emotional state of pedagogical workers.
