W artykule przedstawione są argumenty za interdyscyplinarnością badań w naukach społecznych oraz rozwijana jest teza, że nowa historia gospodarcza jest programem badawczym przekraczającym intencje inicjatorów stosowania w historii gospodarczej neoklasycznych teorii i zaawansowanych metod ilościowych. Badania Douglassa Northa i Roberta Fogla przyczyniły się do zrozumienia roli instytucji w rozwoju gospodarczym i ujawniły ograniczenia ortodoksyjnej ekonomii. Ich sukces potwierdza nie tylko potrzebę ścisłej współpracy ekonomistów i historyków, ale także konieczność uwzględniania w badaniach ekonomicznych ustaleń innych nauk. On the nature of economic phenomena and benefits of interdisciplinarity in social sciencesThe article presents arguments for interdisciplinarity of research in the social sciences and puts forward a thesis that a new economic history is a research programme that exceeds intentions of the initiators of the use of neoclassic theories and advanced quantitative methods in economic history. Douglass North’s and Robert Fogel’s studies have contributed to the understanding of a role played by institutions in the economic development, and exposed limitations of orthodox economics. Their success confirms the need not only for close cooperation between historians and economists, but also for establishments of other disciplines to be taken into consideration in economic studies.
