The psychophysical development of humans is genetically determined and influenced by a number of external factors. Nowadays, impacts on the physical development and physical ability of young men are caused by such phenomena as acceleration and civilizational or urban changes. Monitoring of changes in development and the influence of different factors seems to be justified as it is related to the understanding of processes and the introduction of preventive measures in the field of health and physical fitness for future generations. New concepts for testing human physical abilities seem to focus on utilitarian targets related to health needs and daily human activities. The study was performed on a group of 211 boys from an urban area, including 75 at the age of 11, 74 at the age of 12 and 62 at the age of 13. The study examined the strength of abdominal and trunk muscles (sits-up from a lying position), shoulder girdle and lower extremity muscles (overhang on a bar), and explosive strength of upper limbs (forward and backward medicine ball throw). Boys at the age of 11 years achieved the shortest distances, and boys at the age of 13 the longest distances in forward medicine ball throws. The results of the attained distances in backward medicine ball throws were also better in older boys compared to younger ones. The results of the muscle endurance tests were different. In both attempts, boys at the age of 12 attained better results than their younger and older colleagues. The development of strength abilities in boys between the age of 11 and 13 years has stable progress, while the observed differences in muscle endurance in boys at the age of 13 require further monitoring and further examination of their impact in terms of quality and quantity in boys of prepubertal age.
The aim of this article is to present trends in the latest literature about puberty of YA for girls against the background of the tradition of this literature genre. The main area of interest covers novels from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The description of the characteristic development lines of this genre is the background for the analysis of novel Fanfik by Natalia Osińska from 2016. This novel is written using affective poetics toolbox. As a result the model of affective literature, specific reading practices and performative function of young adult is obtained. The authors of analyzed novel start from their own affects, experiences and observations and reach to the subject, teenage audiences, enabling not only a better understanding of the world and other people, but also they convey various, culturally supported, though not easy to implement decision models. The world presented in the novel is not always a friendly one and often controversial. Characters’ behaviour is not obvious but a thought-provoking axiological proposition. An important point of this article is presenting Fanfik as aconscious and ostentatious referencing to traditional presentation of puberty in cycle of the novels by Małgorzata Musierowicz “Jeżycjada”.
Despite numerous studies on perception of facial attractiveness in adults, preferences in adolescents remain poorly characterized. The aim of present study was to explore facial preferences in boys at early adolescence (11-13 years old) and compare them with preferences of men. All males evaluated the same 30 female faces, which were also assessed by independent judges for several perceived features. Regardless of age, boys assessed attractiveness much the same as men, and the strengths of their preferences for specific facial features were similar to those of men. The pubertal maturity (calculated on the basis of the presence of pubic hair at two sessions spaced ten months apart) correlated positively with strength of preference for several facial features (specifically: maturity, sexiness, marital appearance and friendly appearance). This remained true even after controlling for age and psychosexual development, suggesting that sex hormones are involved in the development of facial preferences in pubescent boys.

Emotions are fundamental functions of mammalian brain, essential for survival of an individual, a group and a species, they have biological basis and are mediated by a variety of neurotransmitters and neurohormones acting on specific brain structures. Stress is state of disturbed homeostasis, which generates a spectrum of adaptive physiological reactions in an organism, which promote individual’s survival or survival of a species. One such adaptive mechanism includes control by stress (via stress hormones) of reproductive functions by either delaying or accelerating puberty.
BackgroundReaching an appropriate physical activity level (PAL) in adolescence is an important public health problem. This study aimed to evaluate factors associated with PAL and changes in PAL in late adolescence.Material and MethodsThe sample involved 411 adolescents (201 girls) who were 16 years of age at study baseline; the participants completed a structured validated questionnaire at baseline (the beginning of the third grade of high school) and again at follow-up (the end of the fourth grade; when they were 18 years of age). Variables were obtained at both testing waves and included the following predictors: sociodemographic indices (sex, socioeconomic status, parental education), sports factors (participation in individual and team sports, competitive sports achievement, experience in sports), and PAL (the primary outcome), which was measured using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents.ResultsA significant decrease in PAL between baseline and follow-up testing was evidenced (t-test = 6.17, p < 0.001). A logistic regression model calculated with a dichotomized outcome (normal PAL vs. low PAL), and sex as a covariate, showed a significant influence of participation in team sports and maternal education on PAL, both at baseline (OR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.11–1.87; OR = 1.38, 95% CI: 1.02–1.90) and at follow-up (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.01–1.90; OR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.08–1.70, for team sports and maternal education, respectively).ConclusionsThe study confirmed certain associations between the studied variables and PAL, but there was no significant influence of the observed indicators on changes in PAL in late adolescence. Further studies evaluating other predictors of changes in PAL are warranted. Med Pr. 2020;71(6):637–47
Autorka artykułu analizuje utwór „Cisza” wybitnego białoruskiego twórcy Andreja Fiedarenki. The subject matter of Hanna Pułaczewska’s article is the impact of adolescence on the use of the Polish language by young people of Polish origin growing up from early childhood in the German city of Regensburg. She presents the results of a study conducted among 30 respondents aged 12–18, which consisted of interviews, surveys, and a language test. The results show how adolescence leads to a decrease in the Polish language’s participation in the lives of teenagers. Pułaczewska examines the difference between the younger and older age groups in the use of Polish language media and the use of Polish in direct contacts with peers in Germany, the relationship between these two aspects, and the impact of other social and linguistic factors on them. Both age and peer relations in Polish have been shown to influence the use of media in the same language. At the same time, peer interactions in Polish were more frequent if parents used it more often in communication with the child. The qualitative part of the study is devoted to the contexts of the use of Polish in a peer group and the motivation to use it. The results have been interpreted from the perspective of the theory of linguistic socialization, i.e., by taking into account developmental psychology’s findings on the period of adolescence. The relative decline in the role of the Polish language in media use in older adolescents has been interpreted as the result of the decreasing influence of parents and the increasing role of peers as role models in personal development during this period of life.
