Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zdefiniowanie pojęcia zadania publicznego oraz wskazanie możliwych podziałów i modeli rozkładu zadań. Ponieważ współcześnie ustrój administracji publicznej kształtują zasady subsydiarności i decentralizacji, uwagę poświęcono przede wszystkim zadaniom publicznym wykonywanym na poziomie poszczególnych struktur samorządu terytorialnego. W rozważaniach odwołano się do literatury przedmiotu, obowiązujących regulacji prawnych (zarówno na gruncie konstytucyjnym, jak i ustawodawstwa zwykłego) oraz orzecznictwa dotyczącego analizowanej problematyki.

The aim of the article is to examine the concept of a public assignment, its possible divisions, and the distinguishable patterns of work scheduled. Given that the system of public administration now functions according to principles including subsidiarity and decentralisation, special attention is focused on public assignments carried out by the individual structures of the local government. The considerations are based on the appropriate professional literature, binding legal regulations (on constitutional grounds as well as regular legislation) and jurisdiction, which completes the analysed issues.
