The study informs about the most common forms of violation of the publication ethics. The main goal of the study is to increase the sensitivity of researchers to breaches of publication ethics and to contribute to cultivating the ublication environment in the Czech educational science and research. In the first part, the authors analyse the reasons that usually lead researchers to breach publication ethics. They also highlight the possibility that the current system of financing and evaluating science and research in the Czech Republic might represent one of the causes. Further on, following an analysis of available literature, the typical instances of inappropriate publishing behaviour are discussed. In doing so, the authors make use of the analogy with biblical Ten Commandments. The typical examples of such behaviour are: 1. data fabrication or falsification, 2. plagiarism 3. gift, honorary or ghost authorship, 4. simultaneous submission or multiple/duplicate publication, 5. salami slicing, 6. text recycling, 7. reciprocal citations, 8. Imprecise referencing/ quoting, 9. conflict of interests, and 10. copyright law breaking. In the end, the authors suggest precautions that might aid a more rigorous adherence to the ethical rules in publishing practice.

Drapieżne czasopisma jako przykład nieetycznego publikowania

Artykuł opisuje zjawisko “drapieżnych czasopism”, przedstawia ich charakterystyczne cechy, takie jak spamowanie czy wykorzystywanie fałszywych metryk oraz opisuje spowodowane tym problemy przynoszące szkodę nauce. Drapieżne czasopisma często nie prowadzą rzetelnego procesu recenzyjnego, pozwalając na tworzenie pseudonauki pod pozorem prawdziwej nauki. Drapieżne czasopisma często mają fikcyjny zespół redakcyjny, nie są przejrzyste w kwestiach finansów oraz siedziby, zawierają plagiaty i publikują niemalże wszystko. Wydawcy drapieżnych czasopism zachowują się nieetycznie. W zakończeniu artykułu wskazane jest, jak można uniknąć bycia ofiarą drapieżnych czasopism oraz jak można walczyć z drapieżnymi czasopismami.

This paper describes the phenomenon of predatory journals, the characteristics of predatory journals, including spamming and using fake metrics, and the problems they cause for science. Predatory journals often fail to properly manage peer review, allowing pseudo-science to be published dressed up as authentic science. Predatory journals frequently have imaginary editorial boards, do not operate any quality control, are unclear about payment requirements and about ownership or location, include plagiarised content. Predatory publishers generally behave unethically. Towards the end of the paper it is discussed what can and should be done to eliminate or reduce the effects of this development and how researchers can avoid becoming victimized by them.

Artykuł omawia etyczne aspekty opublikowania przez Wydawnictwo „Czarne” tomu „Proza wybrana” Leo Lipskiego w opracowaniu Agnieszki Maciejowskiej. Zwraca uwagę na problemy z dochowaniem karencji w odniesieniu do intymnych listów pisarza kierowanych do Ireny Lewulis. Listy te, zgodnie z życzeniem Łucji Gliksman, przyjaciółki i opiekunki autora „Piotrusia”, miały zostać udostępnione czytelnikom po upływie 25 lat od momentu przekazania ich do Archiwum Emigracji Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. Ukazały się jednak w wyborze Maciejowskiej wcześniej, bo już w 2022 roku. Pojawia się pytanie, dlaczego przy ich edycji nie zastosowano się do woli osoby przekazującej do archiwum listy miłosne Lipskiego.

The paper discusses the ethical aspects of issuing Leo Lipski’s volume “Proza wybrana” (“Selected Prose”) by Czarne Publishing House, prepared by Agnieszka Maciejowska, and in doing so it devotes attention to the issues of preserving the waiting period for launching Lipski’s intimate letters to Irena Lewulis. The letters in question, following the will of Łucja Gliksman, the writer’s friend and carer, were to have been revealed to readers 25 years after transferring them to the Archives of Polish Emigration, University Library of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The letters appeared on the market earlier, in 2022. Thus, there emerges the question why the edition fails to comply with the will of the letter’s donor.
