Drawing on the recent research ‘Dominant and demotic school culture: analysis of tensions fields’ this paper analyses found artifacts in 6 different Lithuanian secondary schools. The visual data was collected by making images of places and artifacts which were mentioned during the walks in the school territory with one teacher and one pupil afterwards. The analysis of images focuses particularly on two aspects: a) which artifacts are significant for teachers and pupils in the schools? b)  What do these artifacts mean for teachers and pupils? Therefore, the analysis is based on comparing walks among teachers and pupils in all schools. The analysis shows obvious differences on re/presented artifacts among teachers and pupils. The teachers emphasized and showed those artifacts which on one way or another represent their schools’ achievements, like pupils’ sport achievements, pupils’ artworks, and honored pupils’ displays, and were related with aspects of pride. The paper argues the possible reasons for the importance of pride in schools. Meanwhile, pupils were highlighting spaces they like to gather around during non-learning time. Pupils appreciate less visible places because it is possible to have some privacy there. As analysis shows, different sitting artifacts (chairs, sofas, beanbags) play an important role for creating such private pupils’ ‘oases’. On the other hand, such artifacts, as pupils’ artworks, information displays, and sport achievements, seem to be meaningful for pupils if they were contributing in the creation process or were mentioned in these artifacts.

The curiosity of pupils tends to the enhancement of the interest in this subject. The experiences show that only talented teacher is able to mediate knowledge and to initiate and to educate within one lesson of religious per weekly at Slovak state school. For this reason, using modern technology helps teacher and pupil in teaching religious education.

In the current national curriculum (the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education – FEP) the concept of child /pupil/student has become the basis for conceptual thinking about the whole educational process. If we want to respect the pupil´s personality, then it is necessary realize in practice the relevant didactic concept. It includes an approach to student assessment, too. Such assessment fully engages pupils in targeted judging process. In this contribution we describe a model of a comprehensive and developing assessment and conditions for its implementation. In the proposed model student self-assessment is fully connected to the systematic assessment of the teacher and gains a significant importance for self-directed learning. Both assessing processes (teacher assessment and pupil self-assessment) support the student´s motivation and efforts to achieve the set goals and encourage teachers to select appropriate strategies developing the personality of the pupil.

Despite the abundance of career education interventions and information on career opportunities, the search for information process is not necessarily performed very thoroughly, and thus persons, choosing a profession, do it in the simplest way, being unable to properly explain their decisions afterwards. In choosing a career, it is crucial to think through potential alternatives and support them by arguments. That is why it is important to discuss the process of reasoning, which evolves coherently and can be characterised by certain elements. The following research question was raised in this study: “How the reasoning of pupils’ on career choice is distinguished at a comprehensive school?” In this case the main accent of the research is focused on the situation of career choice reasoning at Lithuanian gymnasiums. The research aim was to disclose the phenomenon of the reasoning on pupils’ career choice at a comprehensive school. For this article, the data have been collected by methods of literature review and individual semi-structured interviewing. Qualitative content analysis has been performed while processing the information acquired from semi-structured interviews. Findings from literature review showed that the reasoning is assessed as conscious, aim-oriented process of conclusion drawing, by means of which it is pursued to evaluate alternatives, solve problems and make decisions by referring to certain information, facts and features, personal characteristics and beliefs. Reasoning based on stimuli emergence is the aim-oriented process, functions of which are based on information, knowledge and experience. This needs mental abilities, language. Reasoning is related to personal inclination and habits. Empirical findings revealed that the phenomenon of career choice at school is not unanimously understood and does not have clear structure. The character of pupils’ reasoning is closely related to emergence of certain stimuli. The external stimuli that induce the reasoning on one’s career choice, which were mostly emphasized by the informants, allow considering that here the school educational environment plays the important role.
