Contemporary social geography from a global perspective is developing very dynamically as a science creating and using various paradigms, theories, concepts and research methods. It interdisciplinary value on the one hand and the complexity of modern microworlds on the other not only allows, but even forces the researcher to use (often in triangulation approach) methods of social research: quantitative and qualitative. Even a brief overview of the papers submitted to leading conferences of the Anglo-American area of science reveals that this is happening in reality. However, contemporary Polish social geography conservatively refers to articulating new paradigms, approaches and triangulation methods. As a consequence of these observations, we undertook a discussion on experiment / quasi experiment. The main axis of the narrative are questions about areas in which an experiment/quasi-experiment in social geography can be used, and about the specifics and its determinants in that discipline.

Aim. The main aim of the study is a presentation of the results of a quasi-experiment related to using a serious game in the preparation phase of supervised teaching practice as well as during its completion.  Methods. The main method of the study is a quasi-experiment with the factor rotation technique. The method comprised two phases with two unequal groups of surveyed university students. In the first phase, the experimental influence was investigated in the first group and the second group served as the control group (to compare the results). In the second phase, the groups were switched around in the quasi-experiment; the control group became the experimental group and vice versa.   Results. The presented study has a theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part, the characteristics of quasi-experiment and its use are briefly discussed. In the empirical part, the quasi-experiment is applied to the educational reality of future teachers. Supervised practice teaching is an important part of the university education of future teachers. Using a serious game therein is a positive element also when it comes to the development of students’ approach  towards supervised teaching practice. Conclusion. Quasi-experiment is used as an experimental method for verification of examined reality. In the educational reality, its realisation is more difficult because it is a more demanding environment than a laboratory one. By realising the quasi-experiment, the theoretical supposition about the positive influence of serious games on the development of a university student’s personality can be confirmed.

The article presents the outlines of the research and the conclusions based on the author’s PhD dissertation. It touches upon the influence of music therapy techniques on the improvement of a development of autistic children, especially in terms of communication as well as their social, cognitive, emotional and behavioral development. The researcher presents and compares two undirective methods: Music therapy and Growth through Play System (GPS). Among many therapeutic applications of music, the most significant ones are chosen and analysed: improvisation, re-creation, composition and listening associated with musical relaxation. The results are presented in the form of an evaluation which therapy is the most beneficial for autistic children and their holistic development.
