The article shows a printed or electronic book as the basic component of information society development on condition of integration to the world education space. The researcher reveals the problem of formation of reading culture of children and the youth in Ukraine. The author shows the tendency of the decrease of reading activity of modern students on the example of experimental research. The paper presented defines reading interests of children and the youth in Ukraine. Relevant tasks of pedagogical community concerning the popularization of the book and the formation of personality reading competence are also described.

Zmiany w oczekiwaniach i mentalności współczesnego odbiorcy powodują, że klasyczne podejście do procesu czytania wydaje się nieaktualne. Recepcja treści dla czytelnika mającego do wyboru dwa równoległe nośniki – często tej samej – informacji, ale zaprezentowanej w inny sposób sprawia, że decyduje się na pozostanie przy tradycyjnej formie, zmienia go na nośnik cyfrowy, albo wykorzystuje obydwie formy prezentacji treści. Jednym z problemów powstałych wskutek takich działań jest to, jakie praktyki przenoszą użytkownicy tradycyjnych mediów na elektroniczne i odwrotnie? Artykuł jest próbą odpowiedzi na powyższe pytania i usystematyzowaniem dyskusji na temat przyszłości tradycyjnych nośników treści w kontekście rozwijającej się formy cyfrowej.

Changes in expectations and mentality of the modern reader make classic approach to the process of reading out of date. Nowadays the reader has a choice between two parallel media: traditional and digital. They both present the same information but in different ways. The user may choose to use the traditional form or turn to digital media. Users often end up switching between both forms of presentation. One of the problems related to this change in reading paradigm is identifying reading habits transferred by users from traditional to electronic media and vice versa. The article attempts to answer this question as well as discuss the future of traditional media in the context of the evolving digital forms.

W artykule zaprezentowano stan badań oraz perspektywy badawcze w zakresie źródeł do badań kultury czytelniczej zarówno w aspekcie historycznym, jak i współczesnym. Sprecyzowano pojęcie kultury czytelniczej w ujęciu jednostkowym i społecznym, a także określono zakres źródeł do jej badania. Wskazano na komponenty kultury czytelniczej i odpowiadające im źródła – szeroko rozumiane dokumenty recepcji – znaki proweniencyjne, materiały autobiograficzne, literaturę piękną i sztukę, listy prenumeratorów, akta notarialne, inwentarze, katalogi, dokumentację instytucji oświatowych, prasę, dyrektywy i instrukcje. Omówiono zależności „starych źródeł” od „nowych źródeł”, wskazując szczegółowe obszary refleksji naukowej w tym temacie.

The article presents the state of research as well as the research perspectives with reference to the research sources in reading culture in terms of the past and the present. It determines the reading culture definition taking the individuals and the society into consideration. It shows the components of reading culture and corresponding sources – widely understood the reception documents – provenance marks, autobiographical materials, literature and art, subscriber lists, notarial files, inventories, catalogs, documentation of educational institutions, press, directives and instructions. There have been revealed the dependencies between “the old” and “the new” sources, pointing the detailed areas of scientific researches.

Biblioteki są bardzo ważne dla informacji, komunikacji i transformacji. Pomagają wpajać kulturę czytelniczą, tak istotną dla progresywnego rozwoju ludzkiego życia. Redukują ignorancję, a zatem wspierają alfabetyzację, wiedzę oraz nabywanie umiejętności. W celu przeprowadzenia analizy autorzy zastosowali metodologię wyszukiwania literatury. Poniższy artykuł pozwala uzyskać wgląd w kulturę czytelniczą różnych narodów oraz ilustruje rolę bibliotek w promowaniu czytelnictwa oraz środowiska efektywnego czytania w społeczeństwie. Autorzy mają również na celu poprawienie kultury czytelniczej różnych narodów poprzez zaprezentowanie swojego kraju jako studium przypadku. Artykuł wykazuje, że zakładanie klubów czytelniczych, ożywianie edukacji w szkole poprzez biblioteki elektroniczne, promocja czytania i książek w mediach są czynnikami mogącymi poprawić wskaźniki czytelnictwa.

Libraries are very important for information, communication and transformation. They help to inculcate a reading culture for an upward progression of people’s life. They reduce ignorance, thus they are empowering literacy, knowledge and skill acquisition. This paper is an opinion paper. The authors employed literature research methodology to carry out the analysis. It gives an insight into the reading culture of different nations and further portrays the role of libraries in promoting reading and an effective reading environment in the society. The authors also aim at improving the reading culture of different nations by using their own nation as a case study. The paper demonstrates that establishing of reading clubs, reviving of education in the schools through electronic libraries, promotion of books and reading in the media are those factors that could improve the situation of reading.

Reading culture, as a behavioural culture of each individual, is formed from childhood and develops throughout human life. It is essential for the formation and development of the human personality. The paper evaluates the role of reading culture in the development of primary school students in general. The constituent elements of reading culture such as reading needs, reading skills, and attitudes towards the use of the information material are identified and analyzed. The factors affecting reading culture of primary school students in Hanoi, Vietnam and the causes of their limitations of reading culture are also discussed. The recommendation for improving reading culture for primary school students in Hanoi, Vietnam will be considered and conclusion made.

Kultura czytelnicza, jak każde zachowanie kulturalne, formuje się od dzieciństwa i rozwija się przez całe ludzkie życie. Jest niezbędne dla uformowania i rozwoju ludzkiej osobowości. W artykule oceniono rolę kultury czytelniczej w ogólnym rozwoju uczniów szkół podstawowych. Zidentyfikowano i poddano analizie elementy składowe kultury czytelniczej, takie jak: potrzeby czytelnicze, umiejętności czytelnicze i postawy wobec wykorzystywania materiału informacyjnego. Omówiono także czynniki oddziałujące na kulturę czytelniczą uczniów szkół podstawowych w Hanoi w Wietnamie oraz przyczyny ograniczeń kultury czytelniczej. Po rozważeniu zaleceń dotyczących poprawiania kultury czytelniczej wśród uczniów szkół podstawowych w Hanoi zostaną wyciągnięte odpowiednie wnioski.

Prawidłowo ukształtowana kultura czytelnicza stanowi niepodważalną wartość w rozwoju i funkcjonowaniu społecznym jednostki. Niezwykle istotne dla jej efektywnego kształtowania jest wczesne rozpoczęcie inicjacji literackiej oraz współdziałanie w niej wszystkich dorosłych pośredników – rodziców, nauczycieli, bibliotekarzy. Szczególną rolę spełniają tu bibliotekarze, którzy wybierając odpowiednie metody i formy pracy z najmłodszymi czytelnikami oraz ich opiekunami, mogą w znaczącym stopniu wspomóc prawidłowy przebieg inicjacji czytelniczej dziecka. W artykule przedstawiono stan badań dotyczący kultury czytelniczej (z wyszczególnieniem kompetencji czytelniczych), koncentrując się zwłaszcza na możliwych kierunkach i sposobach jej efektywnego kształtowania. Określono znaczenie książki w szeroko pojętym rozwoju dziecka, a także omówiono rolę biblioteki w inicjacji literackiej dziecka, zwracając uwagę na metody i formy animacji czytelnictwa dziecięcego.

Cultivating a reading culture is important to any individual and to the development of any nation. Collaboration between parents, school staff and librarians, as well as early literary initiation is necessary for the effective development of a reading culture. A special role is played by librarians, who can enhance the process of literary initiation with properly selected projects for young readers. This article describes the current state of research on the reading culture (with the emphasis on reading competencies), focusing especially on possible directions and methods of its effective development. The article draws attention to the importance of books in children’s development, presents the role of a library in literary initiation, and focuses on projects and activities for young readers.
