This article shows an influence of Martin Luther’s understanding of ethics on the ideas concerning these matters presented by Jerzy Pilch — a contemporary Polish writer. Ethical questions and the reflections connected with them are one of the main subjects of his considerations in Dzienniki [Diaries] (2012, 2014). In his approach towards ethical problems you can see on the one hand an individual attitude, which was called by Luther “freedom from” or practical life for God, and on the other hand — a sociable attitude or “freedom to” displayed in a disposition of living for others. Everything that is concerned with morality in Pilch’s diaries, their author comments carrying out a dialogue with Lutheran tradition and provoking its adherents of Lutheranism. These, mainly ironical statements, should nonetheless be treated as the testimony of his inner struggle with the Protestant tradition and the resulting vision of the world. Katarzyna Kubisiowska, in her monograph dedicated to Pilch, puts the reader gently to this track. However, to arrive at the core of envoi of the author of Diaries, it is necessary to employ the work of a scholar, who would be able to combine three skills in his research: literary, theological and ethical.

Usage of the word ‘contemporary’ in the title of this article persuades to think of issues which were undertaken by editors of this volume: is emotiveness belong only to texts published by contemporary media, or do we have to accept her limitation to media discourse, or would it be considered in wilder terms and draw attention to variety of ongoing discourses. From this point of view it undoubtedly attracts attention to religious language (characteristic for particular countries and contemporary used), which is still undefined and fragmentarily described. From this perspective author analyses the hagiography language which is included in the most recent edition of Bulgarian monastery on the Saint Athos Mount. The author wonders how influential the exigence of contemporary recipient can be or how the writing tradition. Cited numerous examples try to prove that the religious language of Bulgaria is traditional and refers to inheritance of Old Church Slavonic.

The article sees into the role of body and haptic code in the system of semiotic parameters forming the Russian emigration’s literary texts as well as the mixture of haptic feelings and senses leading us into the emigrant poet’s emotional experience. As an example we show different ways to convey the character’s perception of the world and demonstrate his/her emotional conditions such as fear, love, emotional fatigue, loneliness, suffering, etc.) which emerge in the feeling of pain, the warmth and the cold, tension, spasm, touch and other demonstrations of kinaesthetics. The study is based on a large body of the Russian emigration poetry, both western and eastern.

The aim of this article is to discuss the baroque texts that are concerned with the theme of circumcision as described in the gospel. In religious culture, Jesus’ childhood “produced” signs referring to the allegorical and symbolic layer. It is primarily the Jewish ritual of circumcision that was invoked by seventeenth-century authors. It turns out that it plays an important role in poetic considerations that refer to motifs related to the Christmas period, enter into a dialogue with the religious (or theological) tradition, trying to grasp the meanings attributed to the circumcision of Jesus.

Longos, pisarz starogrecki końca II w., autor pastoralnego romansu „Dafnis i Chloe” żył w epoce „drugiej sofistyki”. Zdaniem autorki, kwestia stosowania elementów mitycznych w romansie Longosa pozostaje aktualna.

Longus, the ancient Greek writer of the end of the second century, who wrote the pastoral novel „Daphnis and Chloe”, lived in the epoch of the „second sophistry”, when artistic and moral values were actively overvalued, in the epoch, when vision and treatment of religion was changed and rural gods, Pan and Nymphs, were honoured only as a tradition and mainly among villagers. Longus’ attitude toward religion and beliefs was serious enough: faith in gods’ existence and worship to the cult of deity were real for him, and images of gods and narrations about wonders, which they create, were not just an addi-tion to artistic narrative, but an important part of it. Moreover, there is a necessity to ex-amine the dedication of the novel as a gift to Eros, Nymphs and Pan. We consider the elements of myth as not an artistic reception, but as an important component of the writer’s idiostyle, his world outlook. A question about using mythical elements in the Lon-gus’ novel, the subject of our scientific research, is considered to be actual.

What is explored in the article are the historical monuments of the Orthodox culture in the Kobryn Region in Brest Province of Belarus – the country of centuries- long and rich culture, where specific traditions of sacral architecture have always been present. Some unique cases of sacral wooden architecture in the town of Kobryn are presented in the text. A detailed description has been provided of the wooden St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. The role and rank is indicated of stone Orthodox churches in the cultural space of the Kobryn town and region. The author concludes that at the beginning of the 21st century the wooden and stone Orthodox churches there became the symbol and pride of Belarusian culture. Nowadays, in the conditions of coexistence between the Belarusian state and the Orthodox Church and of the development of agri- and ecotourism, wooden and stone Orthodox churches become both an inseparable part of cultural space and a determinant of Belarusians’ self-identification.

Szczegółowo została opisana drewniana cerkiew Świętych Piotra i Pawła. Tekst zawiera również wskazanie roli i miejsca murowanych cerkwi w przestrzeni kulturowej miasta Kobryń i rejonu Kobryńskiego. Autor artykułu wnioskuje, że na początku XXI wieku drewniane i murowane cerkwie miasta Kobryń i rejonu Kobryńskiego stały się symbolem i dumą kultury białoruskiej. Współcześnie – w warunkach współistnienia państwa białoruskiego i Cerkwi Prawosławnej, a także rozwoju agro- i ekoturystyki – drewniane i murowane cerkwie stają się nieodłączną częścią przestrzeni kulturowej i wyznacznikiem samoidentyfikacji ludności białoruskiej.
