This paper concerns the role of repetitions in Paul Ricoeur’s text entitled Universal Civilization and National Cultures (1961). The analysis aims to prove that the repetitions are a characteristic element of the philosopher’s style. In the analysis the author focuses on the repetitions in the connected and disconnected word order and on repetitions as figures of speech. Ricoeur repeats in his text words, expressions and grammatical constructions. A distinctive element of Ricoeur’s style is also the text structure, e.g., the text division into three parts, the so-called triad system.

The article deals with repetitions, which occur in the structure of utterances of patients with Alzheimer’s dementia. The studies were carried out using the linguistic material obtained in a group of 120 patients with Alzheimer’s dementia under the research project “Narrative and Its Disorders in Alzheimer’s Dementia. The Scale of Narrative Skills in Alzheimer’s Dementia” (project manager: Dr Aneta Domagała; 39th Ministry of Science and Higher Education competition of research projects). All the distinguished categories of repetitions are present both in the utterances of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s dementia patients. The most undesirable ones (the subject describes the same objects or their features once again, in an uncontrolled, persistent way) are the most common in both groups. At the same time, their intensity increases as the dementia process progresses (for example: in the description of a place there are more than twice as many repetitions in the utterances of moderate-dementia patients than in mild-dementia patients). Out of the studied types of descriptive utterances, the description of a place was one where most pathological symptoms were reported.

Tematem artykułu są powtórzenia warunkowane patologicznym przebiegiem procesów umysłowych, występujące w strukturze wypowiedzi osób z otępieniem alzheimerowskim. Badania zostały przeprowadzone na materiale językowym pozyskanym w grupie 120 osób z otępieniem alzheimerowskim w czasie realizacji projektu badawczego pt. „Narracja i jej zaburzenia w przebiegu choroby Alzheimera. Skala sprawności narracyjnych jako technika diagnostyczna w otępieniu alzheimerowskim” (kierownik projektu: dr Aneta Domagała; 39. konkurs projektów badawczych Ministerstwa Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego).

The educational efforts of the student and the teacher should be optimized. The objective is to maximize memorization and understanding with minimal time consumption. The authors draw attention to two elements of remote education materials: interactions meant as activity of the learner and the organization of cross-cutting and thematic repetition. This paper presents the capabilities of the Learning Content Development System as a tool for creating interactive e-learning materials. It also contains an analysis of the survey results on the assessment of interactive repeating units that were created with LCDS.

Miklaszewski stated humorously that while reading Schulz you may come to the conclusion that the author wrote two o three sentences drafting a few situations which he then modified and repeated in his shirt stories. In order to verify if the same stylistic effect is present in the Spanish translations I will analyse the excerpts which contain figures of speech such as polyptoton, ploce, anastrophe and figura etimologica, as well as the so-called “situational rhymes”, i.e. the use of similar phrasing to describe the same or different situations.

The paper presents an analysis of Barack Obama’s first presidential victory speech and its Polish translation. The analysis focuses on loss of repetitions in translation, resulting in modified meaning and effect of the original speech in the target text. Several theoretical vehicles are employed in the paper to explain how those shifts lead to loss in translation and, hence, affect Obama’s message: overt translation, functional equivalence and loss of materiality. The main motivation behind this paper was a desire to investigate ways in which the purpose that political discourse serves in the original language and socio-political context is handled in translation and to what ends.

Обект на внимание в статията са трансформациите, извършени в полския превод на приказката "Тримата братя, ябълката и ламята", публикувана в сборника "Złota moneta za słowo. Bułgarskie bajki i legendy ludowe" (избор и увод Георги Минчев, Лодз 2006).

The article discusses translation transformations in Polish version of the Bulgarian fairy tale "Trzej bracia i złote jabłko" (Three Brothers and the Golden Apple). The fairy tale has been published in the collection "Złota moneta za słowo. Bułgarskie bajki i legendy ludowe" (Golden Coin for a Word. Bulgarian Fairy Tales and Legends — selection and introduction by Georgi Minczew, Lodz 2006). The main subject of the analysis is aesthetic code of the translation — the ways the translator has shown specific features of the oral text such as repetitions, forms and clichés. The author of the article is particulary focused on traformations on syntactic level (transformations in statements structures, changes in words order and text segmentation). The choices made by the translator prove that he wasn’t fully aware what literature genre he is translating. As the result, the translation is lacking essential for folk texts, and for fairy tale in particular, stylistic features which appear in the original.
