The author deals with six, out of ten, Slovakian towns recognized as urban reserves. Their history is described and so are their historical monuments and the course of work on the latter’s preservation. In the case of Bratislava — the problem is tackled as well of tracing the new thoroughfare along the borderline of the meadiaeval city. The said road cannot but be recognized as a negative example of combining the old built up areas with the new ones. The author concludes his paper in the statement that the results of the conservation work carried out in Slovakia so far represent, on the average, rather high standards in spite of the fact of the activities of the Slovakian conservation service being seriously limited because of the shortage of skilled workers and craftsmen necessary for the purpose.
