The paper deals with the language and discourse of the right-wing populism and it analyzes the instrumentalization of emotions as part of the political marketing. The coding of emotional content using images and cultural symbols is primarily examined. The breadth of the emotional scale and the temporal dimension of linguistic and communicative strategies of right-wing populism should be pointed out.

The aim of this paper is to describe reactions to the refugees crisis in 2015, which occurred in most European countries. On the one hand there was a growth of hostile attitudes toward immigrants coming from North Africa and Islamic countries and on the other hand the growth of right-wing populism. In part I theoretical claims referring to trust, immigration, and populism are presented. It is argued that trust as a type of the social capital relations is an essential “glue” for the existence and development of social systems. Moreover, feelings of similarity and dissimilarity are crucial for social cohesiveness. Part II encompasses conclusions from empirical research on attitudes and social beliefs in Poland and Germany and their comparison. It is argued, that the situation in both countries is different in many respects, but one can see a similarity as well, mainly a growing fear of and hostility against immigrants which are a comprehensible social fact, but also a result of populist right-wing agitation.

The election of the head of state in Austria in 2016 was in many ways a breakthrough and its course was surprising. Norbert Hofer, a right-wing populist candidate of the Freedom Party of Austria, made it to the second round of presidential election. Technical problems related to the organisation of the presidential election postponed the final decision until December 2016. The aim of this article is to present the main elements of the populist narrative propagated by the FPÖ during the election campaign. The party reached for a well-known arsenal of means, trying to convince voters to their candidate. It underlined the protection of national identity, the defence of the interests of Austria in the European Union, declarations of strengthening the position of president and the inclusion of the people in the governing through direct democracy. The populist rhetoric recurred as well to its permanent elements: criticism of the establishment and the conspiracy theory of the Austrian elite aiming to prevent or postpone the victory of a FPÖ candidate.

Although previous studies show that welfare policies are important for populist voters, few studies have analysed in depth the social policy proposals of different types of populist parties. Since the Czech Republic is one of the few countries with a strong centrist-populist party that has been in power, this article concentrates on the Czech case and compares this centrist-populist party to the largest right-wing populist party and the main non-populist parties. We argue that the centrist and rightist Czech populist parties have developed different types of welfare agendas. The centrist-populist party supports encompassing and universalist policies (which it links to economic efficiency and administrative improvements); in contrast, the right-wing populist party supports the protection of those in need while preserving the principles of merit and economic incentives.

The novel Nationalstraße (Czech original: Národní třída) written by Jaroslav Rudiš has been staged in German by Theater Bremen, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, and Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam. Vandam, the main character of the novel, has his own perception of the antagonists, which can be interpreted as right-wing populist. This article analyses each scene of the three aforementioned stagings available through video recordings, focusing on the constructions of Vandam's enemies – from the perspectives of Parody and Audience. The article aspires to offer a multidisciplinary approach to interpretation of the present-day issues raised in the performances; hence sociological and linguistic perspectives as well as cultural, political, and theatre studies approaches are applied in the analysis.

Badanie dotyczy materiałów wizualnych (plakatów, występów online itp.) używanych w public relations i posiadających największy potencjał, by najszybciej dotrzeć i wzbudzić zainteresowanie odbiorcy. Analizie poddano efekty wynikające z repre-zentacji i instrumentalizacji afektów i emocji mających wpływać na odbiorcę.

The increasingly louder voice of right-wing populist discourse undoubtedly de-serves our attention. In this context, the question arises: what helps the different right-wing populist subjects to achieve their success? How and how do they address the voters to win their vote? The paper deals with the techniques and strategies of political manipulation, es-pecially with the technique of emotionalization. The focus is on two opposite poles on the emotional or affective scale, which can be associated with grief and crying or laughing and pleasure. The research deals with the relevance that the visual material (posters, online pres-ence, etc.) used by the political parties has on the voter recipients. The study analyzes which effects result from the representation and instrumentalization of affects and emotions and how they can influence the recipient.
