W artykule scharakteryzowano – dotąd nie zbadany – problem powszechnego wykorzystywania radełek w warsztatach introligatorskich Rzeczypospolitej XVII w. Analiza opraw ze zbiorów dawnego Baworovianum wykazała, iż najczęściej były to narzędzia z XVI w. (z dekoracją typowo renesansową), a nawet z około 1500 r. (z dekoracją późnogotycką). Jednocześnie nikłą rolę odgrywają wśród nich nowe narzędzia – z ornamentami odpowiadającym barokowym trendom w zdobnictwie introligatorskim. Przyczyną tego stanu był przede wszystkim kryzys rzemiosł w Rzeczypospolitej – jako dziedziny gospodarki miast, który nasilił się po potopie szwedzkim.

The article characterizes the problem of widespread use of rolls in workshops of bookbinders from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 17th century which has so far been not studied. The analysis of bindings from the collection of the ancient Baworovianum proved that most frequent among them were rolls from the 16th century (with typically renaissance decoration) or even from around 1500 (with late gothic decoration). At the same time the faint role was played by new rolls – with the ornament that corresponded with trends in baroque bookbinding. The reason of this was particularly crisis of the crafts in the Polish– Lithuanian Commonwealth as the field of cities’ economy – that intensified after the Swedish Deluge.
