The author and interpreter Julya Rabinowich describes herself as “Janus in Babylon” and characterizes her multilingualism not only as a mediating competence, but also as a changing identity: “Spaltköpfig wird man. Doppelzüngig. Mehrgesichtig” (Rabinowich 2009: 58). Playing with one’s own identities, with lies and truth, with past and future, seems to be the best prerequisite for writing. This contribution examines the poetic potential of exophony using Julya Rabinowich’s novel Spaltkopf, which is read as a draft of a multidimensional identity conflict. In comparison with multilingual perspectives and exophonic spellings by Yoko Tawada, Herta Müller, Dragica Rajčić, Emine Sevgi Özdamar, Saša Stanišić and Semier Insayif, the tilting effects between metaphorical and literal readings are particularly focused.

Welches poetische Potential in der Exophonie liegen kann, untersucht dieser Beitrag anhand von Julya Rabinowichs Roman Spaltkopf, der als Entwurf eines mehrdimensionalen Identitätskonflikts gelesen wird. Im Vergleich mit mehrsprachigen Perspektiven und exophonen Schreibweisen von Yoko Tawada, Herta Müller, Dragica Rajčić, Emine Sevgi Özdamar, Saša Stanišić und Semier Insayif werden besonders die Kippeffekte zwischen metaphorischen und buchstäblichen Lesarten fokussiert.

The art of fitting stories into other stories is as old as human creativity itself. A seductive technique as it allows the reader to jump from one chess literary piece to another, without losing the thread. Maria Teresa Horta assembles in The lights of Leonor (2011) a mosaic of real/imaginary situations, leading the reader into the most secret existential labyrinths of Marquise of Alorna, her grandmother, a melting pot of poetic prose and integral poetry, in which each sentence is a verse and each paragraph is a strophe.

The aim of this study is to indicate the roots of armed conflicts based on an analysis of a variety of theoretical approaches. The methodological framework for this research is Kenneth Waltz’s concept of analytical levels’ causes of armed conflicts: (1) the level of individual; (2) the level of the state; (3) the level of the international system. The armed conflicts are also generated by the nature of state regime and society, security dilemma mechanism, diversity between economic development, and rapidly growing population. The anarchy of the international system causes war, particularly due to the imbalance of power, power transition, challenging the hegemonic state by a rising power. The author presents a proposition of systematizing roots of armed conflicts and highlight the need for starting a discussion about developing approaches for the analysis of the roots of modern armed conflicts. The credibility of the Church is correlated to the future of Europe. So are related the vision for a Church modelled on the Gospel and the soul of Europe. The Church listen and learns from the world, just as she has a decisive role to play in front of changing scenarios, ethical dilemmas and unprecedented historical turnings. This paper proceed in three steps and will be highlighting above all three key-terms: roots, self-criticism and trust. The first part of this paper emphasises the necessity to experience the need for roots. What is at stake here is to bring together a sense of realism and hope. The second step concerns a much-needed discernment of modernity and modern Christianity. Self-criticism is here presented as a way to challenge, renew and restore the Church, but especially today’s Europe (and the world) to overcome any inability to mediate between today’s culture and the core of revelation in Christ. In the third and final step, this paper proposes an exploration of neglected dimensions in everyday life according to Pope Francis’ vision for the Church in Europe and the world. What is underlined here is then the beauty and richness of the human capacity for trust. Hope is ultimately experienced when truth and freedom are held together.

Wiarygodność Kościoła jest skorelowana z przyszłością Europy. Wiąże się z tym wizja Kościoła wzorowana na Ewangelii i duszy Europy. Kościół słucha i uczy się od świata, a jednocześnie ma decydującą rolę do odegrania w obliczu zmieniających się scenariuszy, dylematów etycznych i bezprecedensowych zawirowań historycznych. Niniejszy artykuł składa się z trzech części i skupia się przede wszystkim na trzech kluczowych terminach: korzenie, samokrytycyzm i zaufanie. Pierwsza część artykułu podkreśla konieczność odczuwania potrzeby korzeni. Stawką jest tu połączenie poczucia realizmu i nadziei. Druga część dotyczy bardzo potrzebnego rozeznania nowoczesności i nowoczesnego chrześcijaństwa. Samokrytycyzm jest tutaj przedstawiany jako droga do wyzwania, odnowy i odbudowy, ale szczególnie dzisiejszej Europy (i świata), aby przezwyciężyć wszelką niezdolność do pośredniczenia między dzisiejszą kulturą a rdzeniem Objawienia w Chrystusie. W trzeciej i ostatniej części artykuł proponuje zbadanie zaniedbanych wymiarów w codziennym życiu zgodnie z wizją papieża Franciszka dla Kościoła w Europie i na świecie. W tym miejscu zostaje podkreślone piękno i bogactwo ludzkiej zdolności zaufania. Nadzieja jest ostatecznie doświadczana, gdy prawda i wolność są ze sobą połączone.

During the Meiji era, Japan began its modernization and the Western culture wasintroduced to Japan. Japan had to construct a modern society, fusing complicatedly with a model ofthe Japanese tradition. In the legislation field, beginning with the Constitution of the Empire ofJapan, the establishment of the first unified nationwide law was attempted in this period. Inparticular concerning the civil code, The French Code (later German Code) was considered as themost comprehensive code, and its translation was made and edited as a Japanese Civil Code.However, translating the original concepts which had not existed in Japan was a very difficult task.They coined words preserving the original sequence of elements and as a result there is a gapbetween the European legal terms and the Japanese ones especially in translation. The current legalterminology was made based on such a historical background, in consequence it has become lessfamiliar to Japanese people. I would like to consider theses problems on some examples.
