The aim of the following article is the reflection on the issue of the linguistic education of children in a younger school age. I propose herein to juxtapose the features of the horizon of linguistic expectations of children before school education, along with proposals of language education at school. First, a description of the cognitive mechanisms which accompany the development of a child’s linguistic skills is presented. I reach for various learning theories here so as to describe the features of the progress of the complex process of learning a language. Subsequently, I perform a general (and out of necessity simplified) reconstruction of the features of various linguistic messages encountered by contemporary children before going to school. Such an image of the horizon of a child’s linguistic expectations is confronted with a proposal of the school linguistic education. Then, the following question is answered: what is education’s response to the horizon of a pupil’s linguistic expectations? Approaching the issue regarding the linguistic education of children in younger grades, taking the linguistic disposition of the pupil into account enables a critical assessment of a school’s offer, which is significant to forming education curricula and strategies.

Następnie dokonuję ogólnej (z konieczności też uproszczonej) rekonstrukcji cech różnych przekazów językowych, z jakimi spotykają się współczesne dzieci przed pójściem do szkoły.
The purpose of presented research is the analysis of poems created by preschool children, in terms of the quality and frequency of use of the phonological language means. A pivotal aspect of the research is the description of the influence of age on the type of created narratives (prose, poem) and on the type of used language means. The impact of phonological features (rhymes and alliterations) on the language development in children will be discussed. The results indicate on the necessity of encompassing in the kindergartens’ didactic programs linguistic exercises and games, aimed at recognition of rhymes and alliterations. Such games play a crucial role in the proper development of reading and writing skills and, as a result, they improve the language competence and have a positive impact on further academic achievement of a child at school.

Przedyskutowana zostanie rola, jaką odgrywają używane cechy fonologiczne (rymy i aliteracje) w rozwoju językowym dzieci.
The research paper describes the role of families in the language development of their children. The main points of the paper concern: the parent's education, the relationships within the families and the language education of the children (and how the families support the language development of their children). The components of the home environment which are taken to account include the financial status of the family as well as the cultural and social components. But the most important part of the home environment is the parents themselves, because the parents have the most important impact on the development of the vocabulary of their children. There are other components such as: the abilities of perception of the children, their physical and psychological development (which are described in the paper). The abilities of the children to learn (in different age groups) are described too. There are differences in the way the children speak according to the region of the country in which they live, as well as their age, social status and examples taken from the home environment. There are other possible difficulties in learning too. The abilities for the language development of the children include such elements as: their comprehension, their ability to memorize things, their ability to use new words etc. These components decide their future learning success. In conclusion the most important ideas and findings are shown, which should be helpful in order to work on the language development of the children and for future research.

The paper presents studies on the relationship between the results obtained using the IBE Educational Prognosis Scale as a tool for educational diagnosis based on observation of children by the teacher and their actual reading and writing achievement. The IBE Educational Prognosis Scale allows for assessment of linguistic proficiency in terms of the child’s current phonological skills and language development history. The reading and writing assessments were conducted using the IBE Reading Assessment Battery and IBE Spelling Assessment Battery. The study covered teacher’s observations on 1249 children in Grade I as well as their reading and spelling scores. An analysis of teachers’ assessment and literacy scores obtained by children indicates important, generally moderate, correlations. The child’s linguistic development assessed by the teacher on the observational basis is related to the child's current linguistic development, including the development of skills in the areas of grammar, vocabulary and phonology. The relationship between the reading skill and early linguistic development (in the first five years of life) and selected aspects of current development as evaluated by parents is significant but much weaker. A regression analysis for reading indicates that teacher’s observations regarding both language development and early childhood progression in reading, such as letter knowledge and reading strategies, are the best indicators of potential difficulty in this area — better than information concerning early language development provided by parents. Similar results were obtained for the spelling skills.

The early linguistic education follows the natural order of speech development. It is crucial to base this education on its obvious connection with the cognitive processes. Thus, the core of the early speech therapy should be focused on the content presented to children. The narrative is the perfect and complete form of cognition, including the realm of values, as it allows for the immersion in the lively structures of storytelling language and speech. The narrative is also a great starting point of conversation and dialogue. The article presents the origins and objectives of the narrative and dialogue method. This original method has been implemented and successfully used in therapy for over 20years by the therapists in the Deaf Children Diagnosis and Therapy Center in Gdańsk, Poland. The method is accompanied by comprehensive resource packs entitled ”Świat opowiadany” (roughly translated to English as „The World as We Tell it”) published and printed by Harmonia Publishing House.

The development of syntactic skills in children has not yet been fully described in Polish literature on the subject. The purpose of research, selected results of which are presented in this article, is to at least partly fill in this information. The results are based on samples of utterances collected in a group of 156 children of typical development. In the gathered linguistic material, the words used by the study subjects and the utterances structured with them were noted, the mean length of utterance (MLU) was calculated, the frequency of verbal and non-verbal utterances was indicated, determining the average number of verbal utterances constructed by the study subjects; also the degree of grammatical complexity of the speech of study subjects was indicated, making use of the so-called syntactic saturation indicator. Analysis of the collected data enabled determination of differences between particular age groups and the evolution of their syntactic capabilities.
Aim. This article, named Family conditions of linguistic development in the first years of a child’s life, is the result of my pedagogical, theoretical reflection. Analysis of gained theoretical material, which I present in this text, shows the association between a developing child’s communication system and awareness, parents’ pedagogical culture and theirs actions, which can stimulate that process. Method. Analysis of the subject literature. Results. The family is the basic educational environment of every child. Its socialization and educational impacts are particularly important in terms of developing language skills. Adequate parental stimulation and motivation is essential for a child to try to improve their language. Above all, however, parents/guardians are important patterns of linguistic behavior.

Cel. Metoda. Analiza literatury przedmiotu. Wyniki i wnioski.
