W artykule omówiono podstawowe zasady teoretyczne obowiązujące w krajach Europy Zachodniej dotyczące funkcjonowania transportu publicznego w śródmieściach rozwiniętych metropolii świata. Z tymi przykładami porównano systemy i stosowane zasady w obszarze centralnym Warszawy. Zwrócono uwagę na istotne dla transportu miejskiego w Warszawie opracowanie specjalistyczne, którego zasady nie są wprowadzane w życie lub zbyt wolno i jedynie fragmentarycznie wdrażane, co niweluje ich skuteczność naprawczą. Przedstawiono perspektywy rozwoju środków transportowych w mieście wobec pogarszającego się dramatycznie zanieczyszczenia środowiska i zbliżających się interwencji zapobiegawczych w skali globu. Przedstawiono wnioski zmierzające do spowodowania przyspieszenia działań naprawczych wobec corasz bardziej zauważalnych zmian klimatycznych.

In her article, the author discussed the basic theoretical principles binding in the Western European countries, concerning the functioning of the public transport in town centres of the developed metropolises around the world. Those examples were compared with the systems and applied principles in the Warsaw central area. She paid attention to the important to the urban transport in Warsaw specialist study whose principles are not put into effect or are implemented slowly and only fragmentarily, what mitigates their remedial efficacy. The author presented the perspectives of the development of transportation means in the city in the face of dramatically deteriorating pollution of the environment and the approaching preventive interventions in the global scale. She also presented the conclusions aimed at the induction of acceleration of remedial measures in the face of more and more evident climate changes.
