El principio de tolerancia en John Rawls: principales características y apuntes críticos

John Rawls is one of the most important contemporary political philosophers. His monumental work aims to provide a reasoned and reasonable response to the issue of justice, assuming a critical perspective and taking away from metaphysical to introduce their reflections in the public sphere. However, his proposal has been criticized mainly by an apparent contradiction between the aim pursued by Rawls and the effects produced by implementing partners’ postulates tolerance. Therefore, Rawls’s proposal is insufficient to develop tolerance in the context of a complex and fragmented society.

John Rawls es uno de los más importantes filósofos políticos contemporáneos. Su monumental obra pretende dar una respuesta razonada y razonable frente al tema de la justicia, asumiendo una perspectiva crítica y tomando distancia de consideraciones metafísicas para introducir sus reflexiones en la esfera de lo público (la política). Sin embargo, su propuesta, ha sido objeto de crítica principalmente por una aparente contradicción entre el fin perseguido por Rawls y los efectos que se producen al implementar los postulados asociados a la tolerancia. Por lo mismo, la propuesta de Rawls resulta insuficiente para desarrollar la tolerancia en el marco de una sociedad compleja y atomizada.

Nowadays the mankind is facing a crisis of political, social, cultural and anthropological spheres. This crisis is the consequence of the hegemony of our civilization’s pattern that subordinates the nature and the human being to the only logic of profit. This article poses the question of the cultural function of the philosophy in this context. The presented reflections attempt to answer this question first by explaining that philosophy should realize itself as the wisdom of serving both existence and co-existence. From this awareness comes its cultural function that can be defined as the triple task, which include not only the elements of criticism and alternative proposals to the crisis, but also the motivation or stimulation of the modern human being to become a resisting subject who engages in the fight for proper co-existence with the nature and the neighbourhood.

Ante la crisis política, social, cultural y también antropológica por la que atraviesa la humanidad hoy como consecuencia de la hegemonía de un modelo de civilización que somete a la naturaleza y al hombre a la lógica del lucro, el presente trabajo se pregunta por la función cultural que puede y debe asumir la filosofía en ese contexto. Las reflexiones que desarrollamos intentan responder a esa pregunta explicando, primero, que la filosofía debe tomar conciencia de su tradición como sabiduría para la vida y la convivencia; y, desde esa toma de conciencia, procurar, segundo, definir su función cultural hoy como una triple tarea que comprende los momentos de la crítica, de la propuesta de alternativas ante la crisis, pero también la de motivar o animar al hombre actual para que sea un sujeto que resiste y que se compromete en la lucha por una buena convivencia con la naturaleza y con sus semejantes.

Now, in Spain it is commemorating the VIIth Centenary of the death of Ramon Llull, with the declaration of the period 2015–2016 as Llull Year by the Diocese of Mallorca, the Government of Catalonia and the Spanish Senate. Ramon Llull struggled to accurately define the concepts and tried to test them with logical arguments for an interfaith dialogue on issues of moral, doctrinal and political order with possible partners. This way he conceived his Art as a “method of methods”, i.e. as a logical device capable of rationally explain the fundamental truths of Christianity, with reference to the philosophical arguments of authors such as Plato, Aristotle, al-Ghazali, Anselm of Canterbury, Richard of St. Victor, Petrus Hispanus, Avicenna, Mateo Plateari and Constantine the African.

Actualmente se conmemora en España el VII Centenario de la muerte de Ramon Llull, con la declaración del periodo 2015–2016 como Año Llull por parte de la Diócesis de Mallorca, del Gobierno de Cataluña y del Senado español. Ramon Llull se esforzó en definir los conceptos con precisión e intentó probarlos con argumentos lógicos para hacer posible un diálogo interreligioso sobre temas de orden moral, doctrinal y político con sus interlocutores. En este sentido concibió su Art como un “método de métodos”, es decir, como un aparato lógico capaz de explicitar racionalmente las verdades fundamentales del cristianismo tomando como referencia los argumentos filosóficos de autores como Platón, Aristóteles, Algazel, Anselmo de Canterbury, Ricardo de San Víctor, Petrus Hispanus, Avicena, Mateo Plateari y Constantino el Africano.
