The paper analyzed lexis collected by the researcher and grouped according to the concept of the semantic field and definition constructions. Special attention was paid to Old Polish vocabulary, derived from German, concerning town organization (e.g. archiwum miejskie, koza, kram, ratusz, skarbiec, syndyk). Specialist, environmental and regional vocabulary was described: harvesters’ vocabulary (e.g. czeladka, gromadka, kłosować się, okrężne, postacianka, przepiórka), wedding vocabulary (e.g. drużba, dziewosłąb, korona, korowaj, poczęstne, wesółka), rafters’ and sailors’ vocabulary and fishermen’s vocabulary (e.g. binduga, drygawka, kłomla, lintuga, sternik, sztaba, tralówka, wicina, wiersza, wylewajka, żak), vocabulary associated with home and farm (e.g. dobytek, kamara, siedlisko, siestrzana, sernik) and with folk tradition (e.g. Sobótka, kucja, Kupała, środa gradowa, tryzna, wilja) and other (e.g. bibik, biel, brzechwa, gleja, grzebułka, oberżysta, stopniowanie, czyli dialekt przejściowy, stręczyciel).

W artykule przeanalizowano leksykę zebraną przez badacza i zgrupowaną zgodnie z koncepcją pola semantycznego i konstrukcji definicyjnych. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na słownictwo staropolskie, pochodzące z języka niemieckiego, dotyczące organizacji miast (np. archiwum miejskie, koza, kram, ratusz, skarbiec, syndyk). Wyróżniono słownictwo specjalistyczne, środowiskowe i regionalne: słownictwo dotyczące prac żniwnych i okołożniwnych (np. czeladka, gromadka, kłosować się, okrężne, postacianka, przepiórka), słownictwo weselne (np. drużba, dziewosłąb, korona, korowaj, poczęstne, wesółka), słownictwo dotyczące żeglugi, rybaków i oryli (np. binduga, drygawka, kłomla, lintuga, sternik, sztaba, tralówka, wicina, wiersza, wylewajka, żak), słownictwo związane z domem i gospodarstwem (np. dobytek, kamara, siedlisko, siestrzana, sernik) oraz tradycją ludową (np. Sobótka, kucja, Kupała, środa gradowa, tryzna, wilja) i inne (np. bibik, biel, brzechwa, gleja, grzebułka, oberżysta, stopniowanie, czyli dialekt przejściowy, stręczyciel).

The paper addresses the issue of loanwords and words (or expressions) offered as their replacement. For the purposes of language cultivation the so-called Germanizing dictionaries (Verdeutschungswörterbücher) were published, in which equivalents were offered to replace foreign-language lemmata. Such dictionaries comprised general-language dictionaries as well as those encompassing terminology of various specialist areas. The paper provides description of Germanizing dictionaries published in the 19th century in which specialist terms are listed. The presentation focuses on macro- and microstructure of the dictionaries by Adolf Reinecke (1886) and Hermann von Pfister (1887). The question of the extent to which the terminology listed there is still in use nowadays shall also be addressed.

Mathematics is omnipresent and so is mathematical lexis. Because of the fact that professional terms are the element of specialized languages that are most likely to (and imperceptibly) infiltrate into the general language, they should be appropriately recognized in general dictionaries and in dictionaries directed to learners of a chosen language as a foreign language. However, in the case of German in recent years (2016–2020), the most widely-used form of monolingual German dictionaries as foreign ones are pictorial dictionaries. Thus, the question is, can mathematical terminology be presented by the means of pictures? The purpose of this article is to verify which mathematical lexemes are included in the selected German pictorial dictionary as a foreign language and how they have been developed in its micro- and macrostrukture. Lexicographical material is Bildwörterbuch Deutsch als Fremdsprache (2016) dictionary.

The paper discusses the terminology used in an EU document. It is part of a recently started research project on labour law terminology and terminography. Directive 2002/15/EC, the document selected for analysis, is an example of EU text dealing with two subject fields: labour law and road transport. Apart from that, it presents specialised vocabulary typical of EU documents. Analysing this directive enabled the author to compile a record of terms in the three fields: labour law, road transport law, and EU legislation, and then analyse them according to several classifications: the field of study, the type of concepts represented, and the length of terms (the number of words, a formal criterion). The proportions calculated made it possible to draw some conclusions as to the specialised vocabulary found in EU legal texts from the viewpoint of a translator and a terminologist, who need to be familiar with all the topics discussed in texts they are dealing with in a given job.
