The article discusses vocabulary connected with professed religion coming from Polish dialect dictionaries from the territory of Northern – Eastern Poland (since 19th century until the end of 20th century). Analysis of word collection from the discussed sources shows little representation of words belonging to this topic area and their choice was rather random. Undoubtedly religion (Catholic, Orthodox and Judaic) was an important part of life among inhabitants of Podlasie. It was such an intimate and tame sphere that it did not need to be specially preserved or protected from forgetting. The fact that the dictionaries included so few words of religious meaning may confirm commonness of reception of this lexis. Besides, the religious vocabulary and phraseology is not a collection precisely isolated from other semantic areas and it connects with language usages which do not apply to take part in the sacred only. However, even such a small register of confessional vocabulary in the discussed dictionaries is an interesting evidence of how particular authors perceive reality and the past of a local language. It does not fully reflect the facts.
