The Role of School in Preventing the Marginalization of Poor Students

Poverty, if it is not properly viewed by the public, may lead to the depersonalization of both poor and living in the midst of those who need help. Poverty is experienced by children in a specific way. They often suffer from hunger, they are undernourished, and they have limited access to a variety of goods, including culture and education. This, in turn, is often reflected in their self-esteem, a sense of self-dignity. The role of the school in fighting the poverty of the students is shown in this article. The existing forms of aid to poor students are presented, as well as the challenges facing the school in terms of helping marginalized students. It is also crucial for the teachers themselves to be trained in such a way that would promote not only the intellectual development of the students, but most of all – the pro-social attitudes and that would emphasize the value and dignity of a person.

The article contains reflections on the essence of emancipation, conditions and opportunities for its realization to people with disabilities. The topic of discussion is undertaken formation by parents, teachers and other persons involved in the rehabilitation process of such personality traits that facilitate self-realization and auto- nomy. The ability to achieve self-realization is a form of emancipation. Taken at the end of the discussion about the legitimacy of multiplication terms.

Contemporary societies assign an important place to the value of selfrealization. Regardless what has been stated, it is important to place self-realization in the system of values. In the article the place of self-realization in the system of values in school reality is considered. Assuming that school as an educational institution shapes the process of creating student`s identity and the way the student perceives social world, the system of values which is transferred there and the place of self-realization in this hierarchy are essential. The article presents system of values in the opinions of teachers from uppersecondary schools for minorities and majorities from multicultural environments in Visegrad countries. The environments include: German minority in Poland, Polish minority in Czech Republic, Hungarian minority in Slovakia and Slovak minority in Hungary. The hierarchies determined by the teachers concern identity and social bonds. The values included in the hierarchy are: dignity - tolerance - freedom - responsibility - justice - trust - respect - self-realization. The article shows teachers opinions concerning the place of dignity in the system of values at schools. It has been found that the place accorded to dignity among values varies, depending on country and whether the school is for minority or majority. The place of other values in the hierarchy is also presented, depending on the kind of school and country. Unfortunetly the last place in system of values takes self-realization.

W artykule podjęty został temat samorealizacji w systemach preferowanych wartości w szkołach w środowiskach wielokulturowych. Wskazanie samorealizacji jako wartości wynikającej z obowiązujących w naszej cywilizacji zasad automatycznie przesądza o jej wartości w hierarchiach wartości w szkole. Wskazane zostały te systemy porównawczo w sąsiednich szkołach dla mniejszości i dla większości ze środowisk wielokulturowych z mniejszością autochtoniczną: niemiecką w Polsce; polską w Republice Czeskiej; węgierską na Słowacji; słowacką na Węgrzech. Wyniki badań wskazują, że wyróżnione wartości różnią się w zależności od państwa czy typu szkoły (mniejszości vs większości), jednak samorealizacja we wszystkich państwach i typach szkół zajmuje niechlubne ostatnie miejsca.

Współcześnie wiele kobiet chce aktywnie uczestniczyć w przestrzeni społecznej, realizując się zawodowo. Sfera pracy staje się równie ważną przestrzenią, podobnie jak rodzina czy wiele innych. Wzrastający poziom bezrobocia skłania młodych ludzi do refleksji nad ich przyszłością w kontekście znalezienia zatrudnienia. Niejednokrotnie spotykamy się ze stwierdzeniami, że studia wyższe nie gwarantują znalezienia pracy, że potrzebne jest doświadczenie, które trudno zdobyć młodemu człowiekowi, a w zatrudnieniu ogromne znaczenie odgrywają znajomości w danej branży. Taki stan rzeczy zainspirował mnie do poszukiwania przestrzeni do badań, które pozwoliłyby mi na pokazanie zupełnie innej perspektywy w tym aspekcie. W ramach artykułu prezentuję studium przypadków - są to trzy historie kobiet, które odniosły sukces nie tylko zawodowy, ale także w sferze rodzinnej, choć napotykały na różne trudności, to nie poddały się i konsekwentnie realizowały swoje marzenia i pasje. Badania, jakie zrealizowałam mają charakter badań jakościowych. Dokonałam trzech wywiadów narracyjnych, zaś zebrany materiał empiryczny poddałam wnikliwej analizie zgodnie z przyjętą koncepcją M.B. Milesa i A.M. Hubermana. Wierzę, że zaprezentowane wyniki badań pozwolą otworzyć przestrzeń optymizmu i będą zachęcały inne kobiety-matki do podejmowania podobnych inicjatyw w przestrzeni zawodowej.

Today, many women strive to actively participate in the social space by realizing themselves professionally. The sphere of work becomes as equally important space as family or many others. The increasing level of unemployment has led many young people to reflect on their future in the context of finding employment. Quite often, one finds such statements that higher education does not guarantee finding a job; that one needs experience that is difficult to obtain for young people, and contacts in a given branch highly determine the fact of gaining employment. Such situation inspired me to search for the space for research that would allow for showing a completely different perspective on this aspect. In the following article, I present a study of cases – these are three stories of women who have been successful not only professionally, but also in the sphere of their families. Despite the fact that they encountered a variety of difficulties, they have not given up and consistently pursued their dreams and passions. The study I have realized can be characterized as qualitative research; I made three narrative interviews and the collected empirical material has been carefully analysed in accordance with the accepted concept of Matthew B. Miles and A. Michael Huberman. I believe that the presented results of the research shall open some space for optimism and will encourage other women-mothers to take similar initiatives in the professional space.
