Two studies were performed to test the relationship between readiness for self-improvement (consisting of two components: readiness to improve oneself and readiness to take care of one’s health) and selected measures of well-being. The first study investigated whether readiness for self-improvement is related to the selected measures of overall subjective well-being (or life satisfaction). The second one investigated in what way readiness for self-improvement is related to subjective well-being at workplace (or work engagement). The results obtained in both cases showed that readiness for self-improvement is indeed related to and does account for well-being. In the first study, readiness for self-improvement (i.e. readiness to improve oneself) accounted for overall life satisfaction within important human life domains and satisfaction with the present and future life. In the second study, work engagement, was significantly linked to readiness to improve oneself but was not with readiness to take care of one’s health.

In the article can be found an explanation what the “Warrior of the Light” metaphor means in the modern world. This figure can often be seen in anyone, who cares about security culture. The value of security culture has grow enormously in the time, when the crisis of all the values began. The author wants to concentrate on the Far East aspects of security culture, which gained in the twentieth century high acceptance also in the western cultural tradition. Of a great importance were here Martial Arts with its numerous Far Eastern varieties, which gives opportunity not only for great physical development, but above all, have a great influence on the human psyche. For this reason, one of the main issues of this work is to understand what “The Way” (jap. dō) really is. It is considered to be a method of human self-realization based on the domain of Martial Arts. Helpful in this task will be to examine how this method was seen by the creators of contemporary Budō, Funakoshi Gichin (living and working in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century), and Ōyama Masutatsu (living in the mid-twentieth century). The author focuses also on the history and philosophy of Budō, which aims for spirituality of martial arts, going back to Indo-European original source.

This article presents the most important aspects of task and competence effectiveness of future commanding officers, who must be professionally prepared to assume their first official position – platoon commander. This is important due to the fact that only high-class commanders are capable of preparing their soldiers and subunits in accordance with their battlefield role both in times of peace, as well as when peace is threatened (in times of crisis or war). The article constitutes an attempt at identifying the above, as well as significant problems which are related to the task and competence effectiveness of commanding officers.

This article presents the most important aspects related to the efficiency of task-oriented future officers-commanders, who must be professionally prepared to take their first official position – the platoon commander. This is an important aspect because only high-class commanders are able to prepare their soldiers and subunits – in accordance with their military use both in time of peace and in the conditions of its threat (crisis or war). This article is an attempt to indicate the above-mentioned but very important problems regarding the competence of the officers-commanders.

Contemporary world is distinguished by complex phenomena which have significant influence on an individual and social groups lives. Specificity of the reality called late modernity, radical modernity, fluid modernity and its detailed determinants are the basis for the statement that long-lasting basis for actions and choices of an individual are replaced by temporary and undermined criteria. According to numerous examples social transformations in many societies, on the one hand create extended opportunities for new challenges and chances and on the other hand they determine the necessity to put new questions regarding aims of action, criteria of value selection, preferences and aspirations of various social groups representatives. These issues refer also to the field of education with its all subjects.

In this article the author tries to approach the scope of problems, which are necessary to under-standing, what self-improvement is. The aim of this analysis is a presentation of the idea of“empowerment development process” and a study how this need is realized in practice especially by Y generation. The article presents theoretical approach to the problem of self-improvement and the original model and results of own research. The aim of the article is to check how much the idea of self-improvement is part of the “management concept 4.0” and how it is implemented in practice. The author is paying close attention to the Y generation, whose system of values, and hence professional goals, attitude to authorities, approach to change, influences the motivation to undertake development activities.

Wśród współczesnych naukowych rozważań dotyczących zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi szczególnego znaczenia nabiera istota rozwoju kompetencji w kontekście podziału odpowiedzialności za ten proces między pracodawcę a pracownika. Skutki czwartej rewolucji przemysłowej powodują fundamentalną zmianę i pokazują, że zarządzanie nieuchronnie zmierza w kierunku realnego upodmiotowienia pracowników, co ma również wpływ na upodmiotowienie ich procesu rozwoju. Pracownicy stoją przed potrzebą stałego i coraz bardziej samodzielnego doskonalenia swoich umiejętności. W konsekwencji od pracowników częściej oczekuje się inicjatywy i zrozumienia istoty podejmowanych działań rozwojowych. Powyższe uwarunkowania zachęciły autorkę do podjęcia próby zdefiniowania pojęcia „samodoskonalenie”. W artykule przedstawiono teoretyczne ujęcie problemu samodoskonalenia oraz autorski model i wyniki badań własnych. Celem artykułu jest sprawdzenie, na ile idea samodoskonalenia wpisuje się w koncepcję zarządzania 4.0 oraz określenie, na ile jest ona realizowana w praktyce. Autorka ze szczególną uwagą przygląda się pokoleniu Y, którego system wartości – a co za tym idzie cele zawodowe, stosunek do autorytetów, podejście do zmian – wpływa na motywację do podejmowania działań rozwojowych. Wnioski z badań mogą posłużyć pracodawcom, którzy chcieliby wesprzeć pracowników w procesie ich samodoskonalenia.

Adwokat jest jednym z wolnych zawodów wykonywanych w Polsce. W odniesieniu do tej grupy zawodowej zastosowanie mają wszelkie zasady rozwoju kariery zawodowej określone w literaturze przedmiotu. Adwokaci są jednak zobowiązani ponadto, na mocy obowiązujących przepisów, do uczestniczenia w szkoleniach w celu doskonalenia zawodowego. Egzekucje tego obowiązku zapewnia katalog kar. Podkreślenia jednak wymaga, iż to nie kary powinny wpływać na koniczność samodoskonalenia się tej grupy zawodowej, lecz wysoka odpowiedzialność za interes klienta i wysoki standard świadczonych przez adwokatów usług.

The lawyer is one of the liberal professions to be performed in Poland. In relation to this professional group all the rules apply to career development referred to in the literature of the subject. However, lawyers must also, pursuant to the provisions in force to participate in training to inservice training. Executions this obligation provides a catalogue of penalties. Highlight, however, requires that no penalty should affect the imperative of self-improvement this professional group, but high responsibility for the interest of the client and the high standard of services provided by attorneys.

The article discusses the nature and interaction of concepts “professional self-identification” and “self-realization”. The approaches to the definition, stages, structure, performance criteria of these concepts are analyzed. Professional self-determination is defined as the process of formation of the personality’s relationships with professional environment and the way of its realization, an integral part of a holistic life of self-determination. Self-realization is seen as a conscious process of thorough investigating and growth of potential and incentive-motivational essential powers of a person, as the process of affirmation of the self, which provides self-knowledge and self-education. It is proved that professional identity is a managed process and, thus, offered educational support to students with the aim to realize their potentials, to reveal the abilities and inclinations, thus increasing the efficiency of the process of self-realization.The leading trends are defined: humanization of society and education; the possibility of systematic and continuous education throughout life; the dominant position of creativity in the education system, that is, change of strategies to personal that make the development of fundamental knowledge with the help of a teacher, their parallel use in practice and creating conditions for the use of knowledge in unforeseen circumstances, on the basis of the developed creative skills; application of modern system of professional orientation, which should help everyone to fully develop his/her own potential (gift, talent, originality of thoughts and actions, professionalism), which is determined by the nature of social relations, formation of a perceived need for an adequate professional self-determination is carried out in practical creative activities through the integration of social, cognitive, and socio-labor activity of the individual. It is determined by the value of the level of development of creative abilities in the process of professional self-determination. It is assumed that the mechanism of self-realization in its fundamental aspects corresponds to creativity, creativity is considered as a constant attribute of the activity of the individual, the attribute of any profession. Thus the desire for professional self-determination is inherent to every individual and is essentially a reflection of a more basic need – fulfillment.

There are still intelectual discussions and controversies on questions about what are the best ways to improve the quality of human life, and what establishes range and limits for the ability of science to facilitate improvement of human nature. Such an improvement preassumes and implies the open-minded approach to refining and bettering oneself, i.e. to self-improvement. This article does not claim to become a exhaustive analysis of duscussions about bettering human nature. The aim of this paper, instead, is to look for and analyse the very basis of justification of that research, and to legitimate it within Kant's viewpoint only, particularly within his anthropology. On the base of rather pragmatic attitude Kant was developing anthropology which puts emphasis on the practical and theological dimension of existence and offers rich implications on the human nature improvement issue.

Poszukiwanie sposobów podnoszenia jakości ludzkiego życia i pytanie o to, co konstytuuje zakres i granice, w których obrębie nauka może ułatwiać doskonalenie ludzkiej natury, wciąż prowokują liczne intelektualne dyskusje i kontrowersje. Doskonalenie to zakłada i pociąga za sobą otwartość na poprawianie i ulepszanie samego siebie, czyli samodoskonalenie. Artykuł nie rości sobie pretensji do wyczerpujących analiz przebiegu dyskusji nad doskonaleniem natury ludzkiej. Naszym celem jest raczej poszukiwanie i analiza podstaw usprawiedliwienia i potwierdzenia takiego poszukiwania sposobu doskonalenia natury ludzkiej wyłącznie z perspektywy Kanta, a w szczególności jego antropologii. Optując za podejściem, które jest raczej pragmatyczne, Kant rozwinął antropologię, która kładzie nacisk na praktyczny i teleologiczny wymiar egzystencji i która oferuje bogate implikacje w kwestii doskonalenia natury ludzkiej.

The article analyzes the development of competency-based professional training standards and their implementation into educational process in foreign countries. It determines that the main idea of competency-based approach is competency-and-active learning, which aims at complex acquirement of diverse skills and ways of practice activities via mastering respective competences. The article states that competency is the product of competence due to which a person successfully realizes themselves in different spheres of their professional engagement, gains social independence and becomes mobile and qualified. The article also dwells on the international experience of professional and training standards development, it analyses specific internal national, as well as external all-European and worldwide conceptions of professional and training standards development, conceptual foundations of competency-based approach in national higher education within the framework of global information society formation. It highlights specific aspects of standards development based on activity-oriented technologies and professional competence assessment. The article states that within the framework of competency-based teaching and training, quality-assuring actions have to ensure the correspondence of standards and learning outcomes. It informs that the labour market is represented by employers, trade unions and the government. The article explores the fact that in Russia, Ukraine and many other countries the employers and the trade unions do not collaborate to formulate their needs with regard to professional training standards, that is why the government and its administration bodies have to do the task of predicting labour market needs on their own.

The effects of radical innovations in the economy and the social sphere cause changes in socio-professional relationship and the transformation of a work man. The motto of work humanization, raising ethical aspects protecting the subjectivity of its producers – in global capitalism – carries many risks as well as raises justified doubts. The model of active life, the syndrome of well-being, the pressure on self-improvement, the ability of self-managing are the new ideologies that convert a human into a product put up for sale, ”a product” that will soon become outdated unless it is subjected to continuous updating. The acceptance of such a lifestyle and work is supposed to foster the personal human market value. The process of blurring the differences between life and work, the professional and private sphere appropriates and reduces the human personality and shifts the blame for the failure from the system onto the individual. In this way, the control system is transformed into a more sophisticated control and over-regulation in relation to the individual. Humanization becomes a contradiction and the effects of work and professional ethics lose their sense and philosophical-anthropological foundations.

The article reveals the essence of training Ukrainian education managers as a significant social group, which has not only special managerial knowledge, technology and intuition, but is also able to define the culture of the organization of the educational system by means of important components of personal culture, has a national management style and behaviour, and considers his education institution as a specific pedagogical system, operating on the market of educational services. The process of education manager training requires rethinking of the nature of their preparation, the use of philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, age physiology, genetics, molecular biology, religion, art. Taking into consideration the universal for the entire system of knowledge about the man and society in pedagogy there have been formed such scientific approaches in the preparation of the education manager: personal, personal-social, activity, relative. The identity of the manager is the main determinant of an effective innovative development of educational institution. It forms the organization objectives, provides resources, plans and implements a stable and successful development. The modern pace of life requires a change of leadership training from the position of state personnel policy on the principles of innovative development. We believe that the modernization of management training in Ukraine should be based on scientific research, innovative management models, structures, modern achievements of the leaders and practitioners around the world. In order to become and to be a professional manager he/she should have the ability and desire for continuous improvement to achieve the highest level of professional competence, the ability of self-development, self-education, self-improvement based on the awareness of the image of I-professional and professional identity. It is concluded that managers training should be based on programmes, taking into account the future needs of economy and enterprises; directed at the mastery of professional knowledge on management organization, finance, marketing, psychology, pedagogy, mathematics and logic; prepare future manager to work on international labor market; ensure the full development of the personality of a future manager and mastering the knowledge and skills necessary for effective professional activity.

The subjects that are covered in the internet self-help and personal development books constitute the crucial part of this discourse requiring further analysis. The main difference concerns their online accessibility as well as peculiarities of the blogging and e-commerce activities of the personal development consultants and business coaches. Aforementioned themes concerning self-improvement, freeing oneself of the conventional success oppression or life crises overcoming are presented within the notion of success management. This notion undoubtedly needs further analysis as a systematic offer on the personal development market as well as one of the scenarios of individual self-identification involving mainly the realisation of the personal internal potential despite any external circumstances and structural prerequisites.

Treści pojawiające się w internetowych poradnikach rozwoju osobistego stanowią część tego dyskursu, wymagającą dalszej analizy ze względu na specyfikę ich dostępności online, a także osobliwości funkcjonowania doradców rozwoju osobistego i coachów biznesu w blogosferze i sferze e-commerce. Wspomniane wątki dotyczące samodoskonalenia, uwolnienia się spod opresji konwencjonalnego sukcesu czy pokonania kryzysów życiowych zostały przedstawione w ramach pojęcia zarządzania sukcesem. To pojęcie niewątpliwie wymaga dalszej analizy jako usystematyzowana oferta na rynku rozwoju osobistego oraz jako jeden ze scenariuszy samoidentyfikacji jednostki ludzkiej, nawiązującej do realizacji jej potencjału wewnętrznego, a pomijającej wszelkie zewnętrzne okoliczności i uwarunkowania strukturalne.
