Sharing humour digitally in family communication

This paper offers a folkloristic perspective on the features and dynamics of sharing humorous content digitally within a family in the context of daily communication. The data, collected from 60 Belarusian families via oral interviews and an online survey (175 respondents), were subjected to quantitative and qualitative content and context analysis. The results suggest that sharing humour digitally within a family can take various forms, some of which parallel oral face-to-face interactions, while others complement them. The most preferable ways of sharing are those that ensure the privacy of conversation, thus providing family members with an opportunity to follow the customary patterns of communication while adapting them to the new spatiotemporal circumstances. Even though the process of selecting humorous content to share with one’s family does not necessarily involve conscious reflection on the sharer’s part, some tendencies clearly transpire from the data. For example, visual and generic forms of humour are more popular than textual and personal ones. Sharing such humour presupposes certain considerations about its recipients, thus making the fact that one’s audience is their family an important consideration in the practice of digital sharing.

The essay critically approaches the current state and directions of changes in the university education. We see the critical point in the unconditioned endorsement by the university of the market values of intense competitiveness of global economy and the cult of the pro-market education which is its inevitable result. We would like to argue that although the university must respect economic conditions and limitations, nevertheless we fear that the ongoing process of corporatization of the university with its management strategies such as cutting costs, scanning environments for competitive purposes, re-engineering highly competitive efficiency criteria for the staff will bring about a neglect of the humanist values rooted in intellectual and social sensibility and hence undermine the social mission of the university which, apart from professional skills and research, must cultivate intellectual pluralism by providing space for intelligent conversation, sharing critical views of the present state of things thus fostering social criticism and the spirit of responsible dissent.

Miejsce przechowywania zbiorów, technika zapisu treści i nowe technologie to jedne z wielu czynników składających się na osiągnięcie celów organizacji. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na wybrane zagadnienia związane z księgozbiorami bibliotecznymi w kontekście ich udostępniania. Próbowano wykazać, jakie zmiany zachodzą w udostępnianiu na skutek przeobrażeń w zbiorach i wykorzystania nowych technologii w bibliotekach i zasygnalizować, co zachęca użytkowników do korzystania z bibliotek.

Sharing materials is one of the most variable processes in the history of university libraries. History and modern times show how book collections affect the activities of libraries. It is not enough to acquire resources to last, to function effectively. The place where the collections are stored, the technology of recording content and new technologies are one of many factors that make up achieving an organization’s goals. The article focuses on selected issues related to library collections in the context of their sharing. The Internet plays an increasing role in human life and it may influence his behavior, feelings and the way how he perceives the world. Its impact is also increasing in the area of human health. Number of people searching for information related to physical or mental health increases every year. This contribution brings an overview of benefits and risks of using the internet in this area. Among benefits there is understanding of symptoms, diagnostics and cure; getting emotional support and sympathy from patients with similar experience; reduction of feeling of isolation; and gaining new skills and behaviors supporting health, and others. Among possible problems there is, for example, risk of making bad decisions about the treatment on the basis of misleading information, or stimulation of unhealthy behaviors. The internet may be beneficial for patients but its using also bears risks. Physicians, psychologists and other people working in helping professions should be aware of them and talk about them with their clients.

Internet zastává stále významnější roli v životě člověka a ovlivňuje jeho chování, prožívání i vnímání světa. Jeho význam roste i v oblasti lidského zdraví. Množství uživatelů, kteří vyhledávají informace související s fyzickým, i duševním zdravím každoročně stoupá. Tento příspěvek podává přehled možných přínosů a rizik využívání internetu v této oblasti. Za přínosy lze pokládat hlavně dostupnost informací o zdraví a s tím spojenou možnost porozumění symptomům, diagnostice a léčbě; získání emocionální podpory ze strany pacientů s podobnou zkušeností; snížení míry pocitu izolace; osvojení si dovedností a způsobů chování, které jsou zdraví prospěšné a další. K možným problémům patří například riziko činění nevhodných rozhodnutí na základě zkreslených informací nebo podpora chování, které je zdraví škodlivé. Lékaři, psychologové a další pracovníci v pomáhajících profesích by si měli být těchto aspektů vědomi a hovořit o nich se svými klienty.

Tematem artykułu są rozważania o roli zabawek w kształtowaniu zachowań prospołecznych we wczesnym dzieciństwie. Autorka postawiła sobie za cel ukazanie znaczącej roli zabawek oraz zabawy w procesie rozwijania zachowań prospołecznych oraz tworzenia warunków stymulujących rozwój kompetencji społecznych we wczesnym dzieciństwie. Konieczność właściwego reagowania na złożone, często skomplikowane sytuacje społeczne, stanowi poważne wyzwanie dla dzieci, zatem badanie i rozwijanie umiejętności prospołecznych w ramach edukacji przedszkolnej wydaje się szczególnie istotne. Tekst ma charakter teoretyczny i stanowi wprowadzenie do szerszych rozważań. W pierwszej części artykułu dokonano objaśnień terminologicznych związanych z pojęciem „zabawka” i na potrzeby niniejszego tekstu przyjęto jedną definicję. Następnie przedstawiono sytuację zabawy oraz funkcje zabawek w świetle koncepcji rozwoju społecznego, wraz z omówieniem poszczególnych etapów zabawy. Zaprezentowano też pojęcie kompetencji społecznych w kontekście podjętej problematyki, ukazując zawiązek pomiędzy zabawą i zabawkami a nabywaniem umiejętności prospołecznych, takich jak: dzielenie się, współdziałanie, empatyzowanie z innymi, okazywanie troski. Wskazano również na poznawcze i emocjonalne determinanty zachowań prospołecznych, uwzględniając takie zagadnienia, jak teoria umysłu oraz empatia. Na koniec nawiązano do badań naukowych prezentujących koncepcję dzielenia się zabawkami jako przykładu zachowań prospołecznych.

The presented article focuses on the role of toys in shaping prosocial behavior in early childhood. The discussion of the topic begins with the explanation of the term “toy”, and the adoption of one particular definition for the purposes of this text. The, the article presents the situation of play and the functions of toys in the concept of social development, together with the discussion of various stages of play. The next part includes the definition of social competences in the context of undertaken considerations. It presents the relationship between play and toys and the acquisition of prosocial skills such as: sharing, cooperation, empathizing with others, showing care, etc. Cognitive and emotional determinants of prosocial behavior are also considered, including such issues as theory of mind and empathy. At the end, the article presents some scientific research that includes the concept of sharing toys as an example of prosocial behavior. The purpose of this article is to show the significant role of toys and play in the process of developing prosocial behavior and creating conditions that stimulate the development of social competences in early childhood. The importance of giving proper response to complex, often complicated social situations is a serious challenge for children, so studying and developing prosocial skills within preschool education seems particularly important. This text is of a theoretical nature, and it is a kind of introduction to further deliberations.

Among the many socio-cultural changes that digitisation processes are leading to, the new forms of sharing mediated through or organised around social media deserve attention. From a practice governed by a complex system of mutual obligations and expectations (group morality), sharing is drifting towards an algorithmically stimulated activity, the essence of which is not survival but addiction, selling, or the desire to show off. Despite the transformations stimulated by technology, sharing remains one of the most important (anchoring) socialising practices ensuring the survival of post-modern societies. Unlike in the pre-internet era, however, the process of integrating individuals into broader social wholes through sharing is organised around new patterns, new shared meanings, and alternative ways of understanding and explaining the world. In a dynamically changing setup of social connections, social media have become an important source of meaning, a permanent point of reference that allows many users to gain at least temporary control over a fluid reality. The stability resulting from individuals being in more or less permanent systems of interdependence is increasingly provided by the practice of sharing, without which social media could not exist.

Pośród wielu zmian społeczno-kulturowych, do których prowadzą procesy cyfryzacji, warto zwrócić uwagę na nowe formy dzielenia się zapośredniczone lub zorganizowane wokół mediów społecznościowych. Od praktyki regulowanej złożonym systemem wzajemnych zobowiązań oraz oczekiwań (moralność grupowa), dzielenie się dryfuje w kierunku aktywności stymulowanej algorytmicznie, której istotą nie jest przetrwanie, ale uzależnienie, sprzedaż lub chęć pokazania się. Mimo technologicznie stymulowanych przemian dzielenie się pozostaje jedną z najważniejszych (kotwiczących) praktyk uspołeczniających, zapewniających trwanie społeczeństwom po-nowoczesnym. W odróżnieniu od epoki przedinternetowej, proces włączania jednostek do szerszych całości społecznych poprzez dzielenie się zorganizowany jest jednak wokół nowych wzorców, nowych podzielanych znaczeń, alternatywnych sposobów rozumienia i objaśniania świata. W dynamicznie zmieniającym się układzie powiązań społecznych, media społecznościowe stały się ważnym źródłem sensów, trwałym punktem odniesienia, który pozwala wielu użytkownikom uzyskać czasowe choćby panowanie nad płynną rzeczywistością. Stabilność będącą efektem przebywania jednostek w mniej lub bardziej trwałych układach współzależności coraz częściej zapewnia praktyka dzielenia się, bez której media społecznościowe nie mogłyby istnieć.

Seit ihrem Anfang im Jahre 200 I hat die Theologische Bibliothek mit 52 polnischen Instituten, vorwiegend Bibliotheken der Theologischen Fakultäten, Vereinbarungen über den Austausch ihrer Veröffentlichungen getroffen. Gegenstände des Tausches sind alle durch die Theologischen Fakultäten veröffentlichten Werke: Bücher, Serien, Zeitschriften. Somit bekommt unsere Bibliothek sämtliche Publikationen aller Theologischen Fakultäten. Darüber hinaus gibt es mit den Bibliotheken der Priesterseminare eine Absprache, Titel für Titel zu tauschen. So gelangt etwa ein Drittel der Zeitschriften, die für uns von Belang sind, in unsere Sammlung. Obwohl ursprünglich beabsichtigt war, nur Zeitschriften zu tauschen, bekommen wir jetzt auf diese Art auch eine erhebliche Anzahl von Büchern und Serien. Auf diese Weise bekommt die Theologische Bibliothek nicht nur die neuesten theologischen Publikationen, die am wichtigsten sind, sondern auch ältere Werke, die am Markt nicht mehr erhältlich sind. Dieser Austausch der Veröffentlichungen spielt eine große Rolle bei der Vervollständigung des Buchbestandes unserer Bibliothek. Er dient auch der Förderung von Arbeiten der Theologischen Fakultät und bietet eine wichtige Möglichkeit der Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Bibliotheken.

Інтернет-комунікація є невід’ємною частиною життя сучасного суспільства в цілому та дітей, зокрема. Офіційної статистики щодо кількости дітей, які спілкуються в інтернеті, немає, але згідно з даними різних досліджень найбільш активними інтернет-користувачами є юні дівчата й хлопці, особливо підлітки. З одного боку, інтернет – це засіб підвищення ерудиції та навичок спілкування, а з іншого – ситуація підвищеного ризику зіткнутися з деякими загрозами віртуального світу: від шахрайства до розповсюдження наркотичних речовин та сексуального насильства онлайн. Нині протиправні діяння (у тому числі на сексуальному ґрунті), що вчиняються з використанням сучасних засобів комунікації та мережі «Інтернет» – актуальна проблема, з якою зіштовхнулось багато країн у ХХІ столітті і яка постійно зростає і за своїми масштабами, і за рівнем спричиненої шкоди. Одночасно, мінливість ціннісних еталонів у статевій сфері та інші негативні тенденції призводять до загострення проблеми сексуальних посягань щодо дітей, що потребує застосування термінових заходів, метою яких є запобігання та протидія їм. Отже, із стрімким розвитком сучасних інтернет-технологій людство не тільки опинилося перед новітніми можливостями, але й зіштовхнулося з новими ризиками та загрозами. Зокрема, проблеми поширення дитячої порнографії (зображення дитини чи особи, яка виглядає як дитина, залученої до відверто сексуальної поведінки, або будьяке зображення статевих органів дитини з сексуальною метою), секстингу (інтимне листування) та ґрумінгу (входження в довіру до дитини з метою сексуального насильства онлайн чи офлайн, експлуатації чи шантажу) тощо, стали характерними для більшості країн, у тому числі й для України, яка входить у перелік країн – найбільших виробників дитячої порнографії у світі. Наголошено, що такий протиправний контент є свідченням насильства щодо дітей і, одночасно, ознакою сексуальної девіації у споживачів цієї продукції, для яких інтернет-технології виступають інструментом доступу, зберігання, поширення, обміну та створення дитячої порнографії. Акцентовано, що завдяки цифровим технологіям, мережі «Інтернет» зловмисникам стало значно простіше встановлювати контакт з неповнолітніми, які часто ведуть себе легковажно та необачно у віртуальному спілкуванні, зокрема, легко погоджуються повідомити інформацію особистого характеру та навіть надіслати відверті фото віртуальним «друзям» тощо. Отже, зростає потреба підвищувати обізнаність дітей щодо онлайн-ризиків шляхом навчання безпечної поведінки в цифровому середовищі. Констатовано, що Україна має доволі обмежений інструментарій правових засобів для протидії сексуальному насильству онлайн та шкідливому спілкуванню у віртуальному просторі. Тому вдосконалення засобів забезпечення захисту дітей у цифровому середовищі є першорядним завданням сьогодні.

Variouns means of communication, the Internet is an integral part of society in general and children in particular. There are no official statistics on the number of children on the Internet, but according to various studies, the most active Internet users are young people, especially adolescents. On the one hand, it is a means of increasing erudition and communication skills, and on the other – a situation of increased risk of confrontation with some threats to the virtual world: from fraud to drug trafficking and sexual violence online. At the same time, against the background of declining general morality in society, the variability of values in the sexual sphere and other negative trends exacerbate the problem of sexual assault on children, which requires urgent measures to prevent and combat them. With the rapid development of modern Internet technologies, humanity has not only faced the latest opportunities, but also faced new risks and threats. In particular, the spread of child pornography, sexting, grooming, etc. has become a problem common to most countries in the world, including Ukraine, which is one of the largest producers of child pornography in the world. The author emphasizes that such illegal content is evidence of violence against children and, at the same time, a sign of sexual deviation among consumers of this product, for whom Internet technology is a tool for accessing, storing, distributing, sharing and creating child pornography. It is emphasized that thanks to digital technologies, the Internet has made it much easier for criminals to establish contact with minors, who often behave carelessly and recklessly in virtual communication, in particular, easily agree to share personal information and even send candid photos to virtual “friends”. Thus, there is a need to raise children’s awareness of online risks by teaching safe behavior in the digital environment. The article emphasizes that Ukraine has a rather limited toolkit of legal means to combat sexual violence online and harmful communication in cyberspace. Therefore, improving the protection of children in the digital environment is a priority today.

The article is a form of a short walk through the ROD allotment gardens. Drawing on examples of such allotments not only in Poland, but also in various parts of Europe, it describes the phenomenon of the functioning of the allotment garden, treating it as a specific kind of intimate space, very close to human, a place for satisfying their various needs. The article considers as one of these needs the human desire to create, to build, to annex space according to their own rules and principles. The allotment garden, as a place outside the official zone of the city, away from normal everyday life, offers its user the possibility to create a new spatial reality of their own, unhindered by any barriers. The gate to the ROD allotment gardens becomes a place of ‘transition’ to another reality, allowing you to forget your everyday problems and move into another, tame dimension.

Artykuł jest formą krótkiego spaceru po działkach ROD. Opisuje fenomen funkcjonowania ogrodu działkowego, traktuje go jako specyficzną odmianę przestrzeni intymnej, jednej z bliższych człowiekowi, miejsce zaspokajania jego różnych potrzeb. Za jedną z tych potrzeb artykuł przyjmuje ludzką chęć tworzenia, budowania, anektowania przestrzeni według własnych reguł i zasad. Ogród działkowy jako miejsce znajdujące się poza oficjalną strefą miasta, z dala od normalnego codziennego życia, stwarza możliwość kreowania przez jego użytkownika nowej własnej rzeczywistości przestrzennej, nieograniczonej żadnymi barierami. Brama ROD staje się miejscem „przejścia” do innej rzeczywistości, pozwala zapomnieć o codziennych problemach i przenieść się w inny, oswojony wymiar.
