The paper deals with the transition of Czech students of lower secondary schools (ISCED 2A) and vocationally oriented upper secondary schools (ISCED 3A and 3C) between educational levels and to the labour market. The theoretical introduction describes the specifics of career decision making of Czech pupils and synthesizes some important empirical findings on social influences on this decision. The core lies in a survey designed by the National Institute of Education, School Counselling Centre and Centre for Further Education of Teachers. The instrument of data collection was questionnaires for students of final years of lower secondary and upper secondary schools. Data collection took place in 2011 at 40 lower secondary (n=779) and 20 vocationally oriented upper secondary schools (n=442). The paper compares the views of these groups of respondents on student’s autonomy in the choice of further education and occupation, and social influences on students’ career decision-making.

The article concerns the process of becoming a professional actor; the author investigates the motivations of young people who decide to study acting. She is particularly interested in the impact of their significant others at various stages of the career path. The text is also an attempt to look at the stereotypes related to education in public theater schools. The empirical basis of the work involves free interviews conducted by the author with actors from Polish public drama theaters (in the period of 2015–2017) as well as journalistic interviews with theater artists published in books and popular monthly magazines in the period of 2011–2016.

This contribution deals with identity as it is specifically defined by Taylor as a dialogical entity, and with the inadequate conditions that are provided in liberal societies for its formation, and of the indispensable presence of significant others in this process. The second part is devoted to the analysis of a the characteristic features of liberal societies. In the third part the author turns to the disharmonies between the demands on the creation of identity and the conditions provided by liberal areas. Demonstrations are provided at the universal level as well as at the level of concrete problems - individualism, moral relativism, the dominance of instrumental reason, the lack of respect. In conclusion the author summarises her findings and confirms the stated hypothesis on the contemporary conditions of liberal societies which hinders the formation of the modern identity of man.

Reflection in teacher development is important as it can help both experiencedand novice teachers to better understand the processes theyare involved in. It can also be used to aid evaluation processes. This paperpresents a small scale study that involved undergraduate Englishphilology students from Gdańsk University who were studying for theteacher specialisation. One of its purposes was to trial a strategy forfeedback that could be used to mediate an already existing model ofassessment for students’ taught lessons, which previous to the studyused only a prescribed set of assessment criteria. Another purpose wasto promote a reflective turn in both the student-teacher and academicmentor (myself), which would then inform the discussions that tookplace after each observed lesson. In addition to this, I was interested tofind out if this strategy would generate a suitable quality and quantityof information, so that it might be used for further research. Overall, the strategy proved a useful aid to reflection in relation to the students’teaching practices. As a research tool, it also generated usable data.

W artykule omówiono wybrane aspekty charakteryzujące młodzież w Polsce i w Niemczech w perspektywie socjologicznej i porównawczej.
