The article deals with investment and business opportunities offered by silver. Silver is the metal used in industry and for investing at financial markets. The main problem related to this real commodity is the issue of “the undervaluation” of its investment options, if compared to gold. If considering silver as the investment option, its investment potential is significantly enhanced by its industrial usage. The aim of this paper is to highlight business and investment opportunities for both professionals and non professional investors at the commodity markets. The price growth of this investment and industrial metal can generate profits for the investors. And on the other hand, industries which cannot do without silver in their production may efficiently utilize the knowledge of setting up its price at the markets.
In the early first century AC, in the north of Poland (predominantly in Pomerania), the Wielbark culture developed with its group of specific features. Among them were numerous items of jewellery. It seems that their use was related to an extended social hierarchy and distant inter-regional trade contacts. The raw material used by the jewellers was most probably obtained from melted Roman coins. Amber exports were at the economic basis of obtaining the coins. The most frequent forms of trinkets:snake- and adder-inspired bracelets, reverse pear pendants, S-shaped buckles and others, are of entirely foreign origin. Their prototypes can be traced back to the pre-Roman areas along the Danube occupied by the Thracians and the Dacians or the La Tène culture population.
Based on a unique bimetallic coinage system, an extensive coin production occurred in Central Europe in the Amber Road region, after the middle of the 3rd century BC. The entire area is characterised by uniformity of the coinage in multiple production sites. The ability to formulate a complex economic programme and, in particular, the implementation of such a programme for a long time, spanning several generations, and maintaining it politically as well as logistically, is atestimony of a strong central authority.

Artykuł omawia krótką historię wsi i kościoła pw.

The article discusses a short history of the village and the church of All Saints in Biala (Biała) near Trzcianka and antique silver votive offerings (a set of eleven plaques), which were located in the church in Biala (Biała) in 1956. To this day, only five silver votive offerings have survived. Two other votive offerings are known only from photographs. Placing votive offerings next to the image of the Virgin Mary with the Child on a side altar that no longer exists was a proof of the special worship that this image was accorded to. During the hanging of the votive offerings next to this painting, there were placed also two plaques related to the cult of Saint Isidore the Plumber, whose brotherhood existed at the church in Biala (Biała) since 1645. And also the painting with his image until the 1970s crowned one of the side altars with the image of the resurrection Jesus from the 16th century. Biala (Biała) plaques have a varied artistic level, from two plaques made by the eminent Gdansk (Gdańsk) goldsmith, N. Schlaubitz, to plaques by provincial craftsmen, who, however, cannot be denied some special charm. This remark applies to the plaque with the scene of the Virgin Mary’s wedding with Saint Joseph.
The tax on the extraction of certain minerals was introduced into the Polish law by the Law of March 2, 2012 which entered into force on April 18 the same year. The purpose of the Act was to ensure the profits of the state budget from entities extracting copper and silver. Since its introduction, the tax on the extraction of certain minerals raised many doubts among both practitioners and theorists. This article aims to outline the major controversy concerning those tax rates: 1) compliance method of determining tax rates with the constitutional principle of exclusivity Act in the area of tax law, 2) the asymmetry of tax rates, 3) no mechanism to support new investments.

Background: Unique properties of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) and products made of them have contributed to a rapid progress in the production and application of ENMs in different branches of industry and in factories with different production scale. Bearing in mind that nano-objects (nanoplates, nanofibres, nanoparticles), emitted during ENM production and application, can cause many diseases, even those not yet recognized, extensive studies have been carried all over the world to assess the extent of exposure to nano-objects at workstations and related health effects in workers employed in ENM manufacture and application processes. Material and Methods: The study of potential exposure to silver nanoparticles contained in the preparation for airconditioning cleaning (Nano Silver from Amtra Sp. z o.o.) involved the determination of concentrations and size distribution of particles, using different devices, allowing for tracing changes in a wide range of dimensions, from nano-size (10 nm) to micrometrsize (10 µm), of the particles which are usually inhaled by humans. Results and Conclusions: The results of the study shows that even during a short-term spraying of Nano Silver preparation (for 10 s) at the distance of 52 cm from the place of preparation spraying - particles of 10 nm-10 µm can be emitted into in the air. During a three-fold preparation spraying in similar conditions differences in concentration increase were observed, but in each case the particles remained in the air for a relatively long time. Wstęp: Unikalne właściwości celowo zaprojektowanych nanomateriałów (engineered nanomaterials - ENM) i wytwarzanych z nich produktów zdeterminowały dynamiczny rozwój w obszarze wytwarzania i stosowania ENM w różnych gałęziach przemysłu i w zakładach pracy o różnej skali produkcji. Med. Mutual relations between the Bosnian Kingdom and the Serbian Despotate can be observed in the period between 1402, when Prince Stefan Lazarević received the title of despot from John VII Palaeologus, until the Ottoman conquest of the Despotate in 1459. The most significant conflicts between Bosnian rulers and nobles with Serbian despots were fought over the rich Srebrenica silver mine. This town, with the fortress of Srebrenik, was located in the Middle Podrinje region, near the river Drina, which in this area represented the border between the two countries. The stronger economic rise of Srebrenica was followed during the 14th century when it gradually developed and became one of the most important mines in Southeast Europe. The seeds of the conflict around Srebrenica were sown by the Hungarian King Sigismund of Luxembourg. The Hungarian king first managed to get Srebrenica for himself, and then in the period 1411–1413, he handed it over to his vassal, despot Stefan. From this time until the end of the existence of the Serbian Despotate in 1459, Srebrenica changed its owner several times. Bosnian kings, nobles, and Serbian despots took part in the conflicts around Srebrenica, and in certain periods specific agreements were established regarding the ownership of this place, which brought in large revenues. A solid number of sources about Srebrenica have been preserved in the State Archives in Dubrovnik due to the fact that the Ragusan merchants and craftsmen saw great economic potential in this place and established a large colony. The interests of the Ragusan authorities were moving in the direction of obtaining timely information from this place, and they often sent delegations to conduct diplomatic negotiations with the local authorities regarding the status of their citizens in this place.
The COVID-19 pandemic, like the Russian aggression against Ukraine, had a significant impact on many financial markets and asset prices. The latter additionally led to large fluctuations on financial markets. In our paper, we try to compare the performance of 'safe haven' assets during turbulent times, such as the recent global financial crisis, the eurozone debt crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian aggression against Ukraine. We investigate the dynamic relationship between indices from several European countries (Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Slovakia and Spain), and popular financial instruments (gold, silver, Brent and WTI crude oil, US dollar, Swiss franc and Bitcoin). The study further estimates the parameters of DCC or CCC models to compare dynamic relationships between the above-mentioned stock markets and financial instruments. The results demonstrate that in most cases, the US dollar and Swiss franc were able to protect investors from stock market losses during turbulent times. In addition, investors from France, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia saw gold as a 'safe haven' asset throughout all the abovementioned crises. Our findings are in line with other literature which points out that 'safe haven' instruments can change over time and across countries. In the literature, we can find research performed for the USA, China, Canada, and Great Britain, but there is no such research for Poland, France, the Czech Republic or Slovakia. The purpose of this paper is to try to fill this research gap.

Silver as coins, jewellery and other items was between the eighth and twelfth centuries one of the most important noble metals in Europe, with different functions, both economic and symbolic ones. One of its manifestations was, in some places, burying silver items underground. The reviewed book is devoted to research into the role played by silver in the process of formation of the Piast State.
At least 110 sites with finds of early medieval coins have been recorded so far in Silesia. These include 62 hoards, 29 graves, 22 settlements and 14 stray and undefined. Finds from Greater Poland were much more numerous, as in 2010 their number amounted to as many as 237, including about 160 hoards. The earliest Silesian finds of early medieval coins are dated to the first half of the 10thc. At the settlement in Wszemirów, 3 fragments of dirhams minted after 914 were found. The earliest find, coming from an unknown locality (Śląsk XIII), contained (apart from illegible fragments of dirhams) a small part of an English coin of Athelstan (924–939). Other deposits, containing exclusively Oriental coins are dated to after 942/3 (Śląsk XIV) and after 954 (Sośnica). West European coins are primarily German denars from the Bavarian- Swabian circle, and they appeared in assemblages dated to the 970s (Obiszów, Niemcza). Silesian hoards from the 10th c. also contained considerable numbers of Bohemian coins, cross denars, various German coins, a somewhat lower number of Danish half-bracteates, single English, Italian and French specimens, as well as Ancient Roman denars. Apart from coins, there were also ornaments and silver raw materials, sometimes blanks (usually strongly fragmented). The weight of these assemblages oscillates between c. 7 g to 1.140 g, while the average weight is c. 100–600 g. 10th c. hoards from Greater Poland represent at least 42 finds. The earliest ones appear as early as the second quarter of this century (e.g. Piwonice, Ochle, Gościejewice). Other ones are dated to the 950s and 960s. the earliest assemblages contain exclusively Oriental coins and jewellery. Earlier on in Silesia, that is, in the 950s, the first West European denars occur in deposits, apart from dirhams. Such denars come from Cologne and Bavaria (Kuźnica Czarnkowska, Grzybowo, Gwiazdowo). In somewhat later assemblages there are also Bohemian, English, Danish and Italian cross denars, Byzantine milliarenses, single Ancient Roman denars or French coins. However, the ratio of dirhams is still somewhat higher than in Silesia. Apart from coins, jewellery and silver raw materials occur, and they are less fragmented than in Silesia. The weight of Greater Poland’s deposits from this period is from c. 7 g to 15 kg of silver (Dzierżnica II), c. 200–600 g being the average range of weight.

The aim of the paper is to identify unobservable factors that may significantly determine the level of gold and silver returns and to assess the risk of investment in these metals. To measure risk, the value at risk and other, less popular measures are used: the ES, MS, Rachev ratio and GlueVaR risk measure. Normal and Student’s t‑distributions are used as theoretical distributions. The results of the study show that we can identify latent factors based on observable variables that have a significant impact on the level of gold and silver returns. In addition, it was observed that the risk measures would vary depending on the period of research. It was shown that the estimates of the risk measures using Student’s t‑distribution have a lower estimation error than those based on the normal distribution.
Nanosilver, also identified as colloidal silver, has been known and used for ages to combat diseases or prolong food freshness. It usually occurs in the form of a suspension consisting of particles of size < 100 nm. Due to its specific properties, silver nanoparticles are used in many technologies to produce medical devices, textiles, conductive materials or photovoltaic cells. The growing popularity of nanosilver applications increases the number of people occupationally exposed to this substance. Potential exposure routes for silver nanoparticles are through dermal, oral and inhalation pathways. Silver nanoparticles may be absorbed through the lungs, intestine, and through the skin into circulation and thus may reach such organs as the liver, kidney, spleen, brain, heart and testes. Nanosilver may cause mild eyes and skin irritations. It can also act as a mild skin allergen. Inhalation of silver nanoparticles mainly affects the lungs and liver. It has been demonstrated that silver nanoparticles may be genotoxic to mammalian cells. There are some alarming reports on the adverse effects of silver nanoparticles on reproduction of experimental animals. Exposure to silver nanoparticles may exert a neurotoxic effect and affect cognitive functions, causing the impairment of short-term and working memory. Maximum admissible concentration (MAC) for the inhalable fraction of silver of 0.05 mg/m³ is currently binding in Poland. In light of toxicological studies of silver nanoparticles it seems reasonable to update the hygiene standards for silver with nanoparticles as a separate fraction.

Historically, nanosilver has been known as colloidal silver composed of particles with a size below 100 nm. Silver nanoparticles are used in many technologies, creating a wide range of products. Due to antibacterial properties nanosilver is used, among others, in medical devices (wound dressings), textiles (sport clothes, socks), plastics and building materials (paints). Colloidal silver is considered by many as an ideal agent in the fight against pathogenic microorganisms, unlike antibiotics, without side effects. However, in light of toxicological research, nanosilver is not inert to the body. The inhalation of silver nanoparticles have an adverse effect mainly on the liver and lung of rats. The oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species is responsible for the toxicity of nanoparticles, contributing to cytotoxic and genotoxic effects. The activity of the readily oxidized nanosilver surface underlies the molecular mechanism of toxicity. This leads to the release of silver ions, a known harmful agent. Occupational exposure to silver nanoparticles may occur in the process of its manufacture, formulation and also usage during spraying, in particular. In Poland, as well as in other countries of the world, there is no separate hygiene standards applicable to nanomaterials. The present study attempts to estimate the value of MAC-TWA (maximum admissible concentration – the time-weighted average) for silver – a nano-objects fraction, which amounted to 0.01 mg/m³. The authors are of the opinion that the current value of the MAC-TWA for silver metallic – inhalable fraction (0.05 mg/m³) does not provide sufficient protection against the harmful effects of silver in the form of nano-objects. Prowadzi to do uwalniania jonów srebra o znanym działaniu toksycznym. Bacterial and viral infections pose a growing health problem, which is largely due to the increasing antibiotic resistance and limited effectiveness of antiviral drugs among the population. Research on new forms of silver based on nanoparticle technologies, in addition to the known antibacterial properties, also confirmed the antiviral effectiveness. Silver nanoparticles not only act against a number of bacteria and fungi, but also show potential against viruses such as: acquired immune syndrome (HIV), hepatitis A and B virus, herpes simplex virus (HSV), herpes zoster virus, influenza A / H1N1 virus, RSV and a number of coronaviruses and the monkey pox virus. Modern forms of silver are more and more often used in products aimed at eliminating infections that are dangerous to health.
