The paper is aimed at analysis of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) practices in Portugal. It is based on the research conducted at University of Algarve and RPL centres within the framework of the project Promoting LLL in HE by implementing innovative practices in RPL (EDUPRO). The project is implemented under the ERASMUS + Programme, Key Action 2, Strategic Partnership for Higher Education. The author of the paper presents RPL practices as strongly anchored in the socio-cultural, historical and economic contexts processes. These contexts determine not only the origin but also development of RPL as well as its social roles. In the second part of the paper the presentation of various form of RPL practices is provided. The presentation is aimed at showing many dimensions of Portuguese RPL practices. As a result, RPL is understood as a multi-dimensional and complex practice. The analysis of Polish contexts and solutions is also introduced by the author. She considers the possible development of RPL in Poland as well.

The aim of this paper is to outline the problem of critical discourse analysis in relation to theoretical framework of phenomenological sociology. The main task undertaken here is to show contemporary CDA assumptions from the perspective of Schützian tradition. The goal of the paper is also to discuss the major dilemmas associated with “social world,” which is not only the basic concept of phenomenological sociology but also a keyword of contemporary critical discourse studies. All these reflections are guided by observation that the nature of critical discourse studies is eclectic, what causes many dilemmas at the theoretical and methodological level.

Acknowledging that the composition and structure of personal networks is affected by meeting opportunities, social distance, and national origin similarity, we aim to disentangle their association with triadic closure in the core of personal networks. We use data (collected 2009) on the core networks of three groups of Swedes (all born in 1990): native Swedes, and first- and second-generation immigrants from Iran and former Yugoslavia, where the respondent (ego) mentions up to five core network members (alters) and whether each pair of alters (dyad) know each other (triadic closure). A three-level multiple membership logistic regression model is performed, which allows the testing of dyadic alter-alter effects, ego effects, and their interaction (i.e., ‘triadic’ effects) on triadic closure. We show that social distance, national origin similarity, and the sharing of social contexts are all associated with triadic closure in the expected direction, and that the effects of social distance and national origin similarity become smaller if shared social contexts are taken into account. The effects of the sharing of social contexts are the largest and are robust, indicating that shared social contexts are a dominant and more important condition for triadic closure than are similarity on relevant socio-demographic characteristics.

This article attempts to look at the pedagogical effects of the International Year of Disabled Persons more than three decades since the celebrations. The starting point for reflection is an article by A. Hulek, about the pedagogical effects of the International Year of Disabled Persons, which was published in vol. 4 of “The Pedagogical Quarterly”.
